Default Chad Dawson teaming up with Emmanuel Steward

Looks like Chad wants to be more offensive minded, and decided to go with Steward as his new trainer. Wonder if he's gonna have a tune up fight with Steward or go right to the rematch with pascal??

I think this is a good move by Dawson.

It never hurts to go and learn new things with different trainers, hopefully he will proceed to get better.

Yeah I suspect your about rightRoss, Steward is obviously a great trainer but he doesn't do the fans any favours for the most part.. Chad really needs to up his conditioning more than anything...He didn't have enough gas to match Pascals output, who himself was completely outworked by Hopkins and showed poor stamina to say the least. I do think Dawson is more than capable of winning the rematch though if he just works more, he had Pascal in trouble in the last round and he should know that he can get it done earlier, he is the better fighter.

It's going to be nice when Mayorga gets his ass whupped by Miguel Cotto...I'll take pleasure in watching that just because of fans like you.

As for Dawson it's a wise choice on paper but the guy has to adapt to the style and that can take several fights to accomplish, but since Chad isn't coming off a devistating loss he should be psychologically prepared in less time. The main problem I had with Chad using John Scully, Dan Birmingham, Floyd Mayweather Sr., and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad is that all of those guys tried to have Chad (at 6'2/6'3) fight in close and that more than likely smothered any power he might have. With tall lanky fighters distance is a KEY, you need distance to put speed, leverage, and full power on a punch. Not everyone thrives under Manny's training, Jermain Taylor didn't do any better under Manny than he did under Pat Burns...though some might say he beat Pavlik in the rematch.

Dawson does have pretty fast hands, I do wonder why or if Freddy Roach was approached.

In all, it's an interesting pairing and it makes sense on paper, I'll be interested to see how Chad adapts, though I do predict if he does as Manny tells him his power will improve.

    Oh...don't be like that

Has Dawson had that many trainers already?

If he has, that tells me he's just a lazy fighter. Steward, Roach, anyone! They are not going to be able to implant a killer instinct in him. He just plods along.

I'd much rather watch a Ricardo Mayorga that leaves everything in the ring after taking and throwing everything he has regardless of what condition he's in.

    Completely agree...

I think this will be a great move for BCD.
I genuinely think Manny will bring out another dimension to BCD as a fighter.

Well, I'll let you in to a little secret

Steward is training Cotto. So watch for Cotto to hold a lot, instead of taking knees

why is he gonna hold alot when he'll be smacking Mayorga around like his bitch for about 5 to 6 rounds then end him with left hook downstairs

if anything Mayorga is going to be looking at the ref to save him as he's done all 3 times he was made another fighters bitch

Chad will win the rematch without a trainer. He knows he wasn't active enough. And he knows he had Pascal hurts. And on top of it all, Pascal took Dawson big payday against Hopkins. As good as Dawson is, he is not a fan favorite. A boxing fan favorite maybe but don't have the appeal to get a PPV fight.

Mayweather and Dawson is cool. Why don't fighters work with other fighters to help them in their flaws? If Dawson train with Mayweather, his stamina will go up a notch. Just wondering!!!

Ross is right, that's what Steward brings to his fighters. A jab, some distance and a bit of spoiling. I don't really see it as an attempt to become more offensive minded at all. It can be tactically effective, but like P4PKing says, it isn't particularly fan friendly.

What does this thread have to do with Ricardo Mayorga anyway? Haha, nuts.
