Default Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Billy Lyell, Jan 29th, Mexico

Boxing - Chavez to face Lyell

Shame on Martinez for taking the easy road of fighting Dzinziruk. As always, we can rely Chavez to continue to go out and get the big fights the fans really want to see!

Ha ha... careful.... you might get some Junior fans chiming in saying how right you are, not realizing your tongue is poking through your cheek.

So sick of this. Is this kid ever going to get these leeches called "promoters" off his back and face some real competition, or is he just lovin every minutes of this gravy train he's on?

he was set to make $700,000 minimum against Wolak of all people, you really think he's gonna step up to face someone decent when he can make that type of money?

I don't understand why people want to watch Chavez Jr. fighting bums. What's the thinking behind it? "Well, his Dad was a great fighter, the son is a bit shit and constantly fights tomato cans, but on that basis we should all pay PPV to watch him". It's bloody stupid. Would I want to watch James Toney Jr. (if there is such a thing) if he is rubbish and only fights bartenders? No, of course not.

Lok at JCC Sr's record in his first 40 fights, Jr. is on the same career path. It's baby steps I guess, since he is working on new stuff with Roach and getting used to middleweight. I am a JCC Jr. fan after the Duddy fight, he could get better, so don't write him off yet.

Oh my days this is an awful fight. What the hell. Fan of Jnr or not, you can't be condoning this. Ha. I actually watched Chavez Duddy with some interest, now i'll go back to reading about Chavez's result via here or boxrec again until he steps it up. Poor showing. Even Wolak, IMO, was not gonna be a step up in competition really. I reckon I could be harder to hit than him.

i have seen a couple of Jr's fights, and the thing is he usually is in entertaining fights, but it's against mediocre opposition which isn't really saying much, if he was on the undercard i wouldn't be complaining but he's no main event attraction

Here is the thing. Chavez Jr. is young with no amateur background. His team isn't going to put him in with better opposition quite yet. It's understandable to an extent. The only thing I would like to see different is him against some different looks. Matt Vanda, John Duddy, Troy Rowland are all sorta cut from the same mold. Billy Lyell isn't any different. I want to see him up against someone who moves, at least somewhat moves, or a limited fighter with a relatively big punch. Isn't that how a young fighter progresses? Seeing the same look over and over doesn't do much to progress the fighter. What I would like to see is Chavez Jr. fight Zbik for the interim (or whatever) WBA title. That would be a welcome step up against competent foe (at least Tiger tells me he is competent).

He truly is his Fathers son....He will have a career of 100 bouts with 15 being actually worth something while the rest of it is drawn out as he waits for new cab drivers to get off their shifts

Exactly. People thought JCC wouldn't do anything once he started fighting for a championship or defending the belt and what a surprise. The people who hated him hated him more when they saw him winning championships and defending them for so long.

Let's just suppose Jr. starts fighting bigger names and kept winning, do you think all the people that talked bad about him will all of a sudden start cheering for him and giving him credit?

I am surprised to hear a comment like that from you. Have you seen all JCC's accomplishments and why his name is mentioned in boxing?
