Default Remembering JOSE LUIS LOPEZ aka ' Maestrito '

Without his love for surfing and Marijuana, how great could he have been? Tito and Oscar wanted no part of this guy.. He fought to a draw against a prime quartey and and beat Yory Boy Campos at his own game.. What do you think about Lopez and how would he have done against today's welter weights?

    Hell I remember his Dad!

I've come to believe that the abilities to absorb daily training pain, not getting bored by endless repetition and an affinity for the sport that precludes destructive behavior may be almost as native as handspeed, a good chin and power.

Guys like this and Zab Judah and Frankie Randall and Johnny Tapia were missing what seem to be important elements in their talent toolbox.

If that view is right then your question is almost like asking how good would Julian Jackson have been with a chin or Ruben Castillo with power.

Of course I could be entirely full of it.

I saw him first beating up our great hope Eamon Loughran in 1 round and thought this guy was good. But as your fight showed he took too many punches and was slow. He got beat by Ike in my opinion and was not the elite fighter like ODH and Tito were. Cannot believe he is still fighting.

That was a good fight, not seen that before.

    That is great fight !!!!

Page was such a give and take type boxer.

Lopez would have given anybody a fight , rock chin and big punch , would have loved to see him fight Tommy Hearns at welter.

Great fight! I hope the surf break Mavericks is alot kinder to him than James Page was (I highly doubt it though).

I enjoyed his fight with Aaron Davis; good solid pro fight. You have to wonder why he never ever even tried to avoid a punch.

Indica bud, slows your reflexes, I dunno

That Davis brawl was just flat out fun stuff. I think overall Lopez was what you see is what you get and was as good as he was willing to be. Just a short streaking meteor of a fighter who if you saw live you loved all of it and only wanted more. Thought Ike nicked that decision over him but this guy kept you on the edge of your seat, quite the character too. I can pretty much get Delahoya and Tito not going out of there lucrative way to run into him. He def had a 'let sleeping dogs lay' appeal and had not secured a major title coming off the 4th rate WBO strap. Would have been fire works though.

He's already out. And based on the last time return from inactivity (Andrew Lewis) I don't think Mayweather has any worries

I agree on the asterisk part with Zab, Randall and Tapia. Small thing but for me Randall and Tapia had the demons and self sabotage to overcome where as Zab just never seemed to fully mature or was well a rounded complete fighter in skill and game plan compared. Especially a Tapia.
