Default Emanuel Steward completely overreacting to Ortiz's knockdown of Berto

I've been reminded of it everytime I catch the previews and highlights for the upcoming fight while i'm changing channels: "Ohhhhhh, MY GOD!" lol

Can he be more over the top than he was after that punch was thrown. It was a good shot and all, but come on. I felt like I was watching a WWE match or something. "Stone Cold Stunner!"

I'm certain that HBO wants to promote their rising stars which probably leads them encourage their commentators to oblige by hyping up the action in the ring, but please. That was so out of Emanuel's character to react that way that it was almost laughable.

Yes it is ridiculous as it leads the casual boxing fan to believe that Ortiz KO'd Berto when he did not.

Thats HBO for you though they always hype the shit out of their boys.

They love you when your winning and hate you when your losing.

And Steward may have just been really into the fight that night and got over excited.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

I think he was just more suprised than anything, as we all were. I though for sure Ortiz was going to go down again at that point, he was definitely dazed. I thought he was going down or the ref might stop it.

It almost seems sometimes like people forget that commentary is part of sports...

Imgaine if Cosell would have never shouted "Down goes Frai-sha" over and over.

Or if Ray Hudson would never shout things such as "This is a Bernini sculpture of a goal. It is majesterial. Great combination of power & placement"

I think the way the fight was paning out he reacted accordingly.
Unless anyone here was actually nonchalant as the fight went on and Ortiz kept kicking Bertos ass.
If that's the case then I can see how you feel he overracted.

I don't think he overreacted at all, he was just caught up in the excitement of the fight. Hell, I screamed just as loud when that happened.

Emanuel hardly ever gets that excited during commentating, so I thought it was a hoot to hear him scream out like that.

You have to remember he is sitting ringside and doesn't have the same camera angle you get. I imagine the Knock Down looked pretty devastating from where he was sitting. Besides that it's his job to hype the game.

However ever my first thought was that he over reacted.

BANG BANG BANG....Manny has light years to go before he catches up with that kook Lampley. He makes nearly every fight into half over acted CSI episode half virtual comic book
