It's been a long time since i seen that fight but i remember thinking what a good close fight it was.
I think i scored it a draw.
Ah Rocky... I had great hope for him after that fight.. I thought it was close but I had barrera by like a round or 2 cant remember that well.
Im not going to cry robbery but I thought it was a horrible decision and majority of the fans at the time felt the same.
Barrera didnt have to give him a rematch but he fought him immediately 4 months later so that tells me he wasnt confident with the victory. He knew he lost and wanted to set things straight.
I thought Barerra edged a close fight, but I think most close fights deserve a rematch and so that's what Barrera gave him. Barrera underestimated his man, but dug deep. Second time out it was 'let's beat the man with a jab'. Dull fight, but easy win.
I had the ATG by three points. One day Barrera will be inducted into the Hall...Juarez will be reading about it online and missing all those blown chances on hbo.
I thought Barrera won, never really rated Rocky and knew Marco would up his game in the re-match. It was not even an exciting fight.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Barrera took Juarez lightly I think and almost paid the price but dug deep and deserved the win. People forget that Barrera moved up to lightweight to fight Chavez for the title but that fell through and he had to move down to face a new opponent so that must have affected his preperation. I remember because I flew to Vegas to see it.
2nd time round a focused Barrera turned up and Rocky didnt stand a chance but the signs were there that Barreras best days were behind him. Great fight the 1st time though, I'll have to watch that again at some point.
I forget who I actually had winning the fight, but I remember it being a good fight. I've still never seen the second fight, I moved on the day of the rematch and didn't get internet for like another week after moving. The day of the first fight, I was paintballing at my friends house in the mountains and watched it there. No one cares about this stuff, but I only mention this because I was recalling paintballing and started thinking about this fight yesterday. Weird that it would get brought up here.
Like Spicoli said, Juarez just let everything slip away simply by not letting his punches go. Beautiful left hook when he actually decided to throw it that actually made me like him as a fighter. He was incredibly frustrating against Zahir Raheem in a fight that he probably lost but got a decision in Houston. Then the Soto fight I was hoping woke him up a bit. He had all the tools to actually be an exciting fighter. A sturdy chin, short power punches, good skills cutting off the ring but he just never punched. It's the most frustrating trait a fighter can possibly have from a fan's perspective. The fact that the Barrera fight was his best performance is indicative of how much he let slip away.
I just looked at his boxrec and it has him fighting Gamboa. I'm behind on my boxing news but I'm assuming that's boxrec's usual bullshit right? I refuse to believe it's not.
