In many ways Joe was for me the greatest ever fighter, maybe not the best boxer, but inside and outside of the ring, boy could he fight. He never stooped down to respond in kind to Ali's playground taunts and despite having everything from physical impairments and not the greatest education stacked against him, he found a way to win. His courage was tested again and again and he was not found wanting. He was the real deal. R.I.P Champ
That is what I mean about Frazier being strong and tough both mentally and physically to achieved what he did with what he had. He worked very hard and was starving to achieve success. That can be seen in his fights and career. He had a bomb of left hook that was good to him too.

It's a shame Frazier (and all of boxing) missed out on how he would fair vs guys like Ken Norton or Ron Lyle. Frazier-Lyle would have been a brawl! I also wonder how he would have done vs someone like Larry Holmes Prime for Prime of course.
'Smokin' Joe was a great great fighter, and a great man...it's a shame he doesn't get more credit.
Joe was a one in a billion guy, an ideal role model and one hell of a fighter. I actually think he was born without the ability to be knocked out too. I know he was beaten up by Foreman but it was the ref that had to stop it both times not Joe. He just kept getting up and coming back for more from the biggest puncher of all time IMO. Similar thing in Ali-Frazier III too (the Thrilla) if legend is to be believed Ali wanted pulling out but Dundee realised that Futch was pulling Joe so he waited. I always wonder how differently things would have been had this happened.
