No way Joe Louis would avoid Archie Moore. Joe would have battered Archie who was too small.

And just who would "they" be?Show me a timeline that suggests Louis ducked Moore?Louis was spent long before he fought Marciano in 1951. In fact it was his last fight. Moore was not even a factor at hev until 1955 and continued to fight at light hev after that.

I remember a caricature on the front cover of The Ring Magazine showing Archie Moore running with arms outstretched chaseing a crown with world heavyweight champion written on it clearly indicating he could not get a crack at Louis ,i must try and see if i can dig that magazine up

    here we go

The Ring Magazine Covers: 1952 - Boxrec Boxing Encyclopaedia

Looking at Moore's record I would say his prime was between 1950-1960. Between the start of 1950 and the beginning of 1960 he had a total of 73 contests and only lost three. One was to future light heavyweight champion Harold Johnson which was later avenged and the other two were to world heavyweight champions. Also he was world light heavyweight champion from 1951, so almost all of his fights during this period were against world class opposition, a few of them heavyweights too.
They say most fighters reach their prime between the ages of 25 and 30 but Moore was one of the few who reached his prime in his mid thirties and seemed to keep it until his mid forties.

Moore was definitely avoided at light heavyweight and could have been champion earlier. Surprised that they think Joe avoided him.
