Boxer Robert Guerrero, who is slated to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 4 in the main event of a Showtime pay-per-view card at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, was arrested Thursday morning at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport for attempting to board an airplane with a handgun.
According to multiple reports, Guerrero, 30, was arrested after trying to bring an unloaded gun onto a Delta flight bound for Las Vegas. The New York Post reported that the gun was a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic. However, the local NBC affiliate reported the gun was a 9 mm Smith & Wesson. Guerrero had no ammunition with him.
Charges against Guerrero, who was in New York to promote his fight with Mayweather, are pending.

He was reportedly with Guerrero when the boxer was taken into custody. The voicemail on DeCubas' cell phone was full and could not accept messages. He did not immediately respond to a text message.
Showtime spokesman Chris DeBlasio said the network would decline comment at this time.
Guerrero appeared on the Christian Broadcasting Network's "The 700 Club" on Monday along with his wife, Casey. He spoke openly of his Christian faith and of how he got through his wife's life-threatening illness. On Tuesday, he had a news conference with New York area media.
Stephen Espinoza, the executive vice president and general manager of Showtime Sports, lauded Guerrero at the Tuesday news conference.
We wanted to make sure the East Coast knew about Robert, knew how classy he is and how wonderful he is as an individual.More to come on this as more details become available.
What a fucking idiot. I don't give him a hope against Mayweather anyway so not too fussed if this fight is off.
Robert did declare the gun at the ticket counter and then security was called. He did not have ammo.
Not the smartest thing he could have done, and too soon to tell what impact it might have on the flight with Floyd.
At the very least, he will probably lose the pistol, be fined along with probation, and be severely chastised for stupidity because states have their own gun laws and it's the gun owners responsibility to know them.
Guns in airports is a bad idea in any state.
What an idiot!!
The Ghost knows the only way to beating Floyd is by prayer and a gun.
IDIOT!
Floyd is going to have fun with this. LOL
Floyd should take it as a compliment
Maybe it was a birthday present? Dumb move, but the fight will be fine. Not like he went out and beat up his Babies momma or something.
Guererro should just phone up god to clear up the misunderstanding.
Guerrero is licensed to carry in Cali but not New York, and NYC gun laws are a mother fucker.
Lil Wayne got popped for the same thing (40 cal) and got a year... not sure what the consequences are for getting caught with it at a FUCKING AIRPORT.
NY has some of the strictest gun laws in the US. This could mean jail time. Whether it would impact his fight with Floyd is a different story because arguably he could begin serving the sentence after the fight.
The spin now from Guerrero's camp is that he had it with him, without ammo, and unloaded, for a photo op.
Robert Guerrero: .40 caliber handgun was for photo op - Bad Left Hook
If true, I can't see much coming from this.
This is crap. He legally registered the gun in California, legally checked the bags flying from California. He goes tgrough the same process in Bew York byt gets arrested for it. Only in New York is this a crime, its a joke. 99% sure no charges get filed sincd it was an aidport and therefore Homeland Security and the feds take over and they know not to waste their time. Still stupid. A littke bit of ignorance on Guerreros part but he wasnt trying to take a gun on a plane, just trying to bring it into an airport which is proper procedure everywhere else in the country.
Stupid excuse... who the fuck hunts with a handgun (unless you're hunting humans).
