Default Phone Booth scraps vs. Long range pot-shots!

What do you prefer? I guess it all depends on my mood of the night of the fight. I don't mind a good, long range, tactical fight- where guys have a little bit of counter-punching action to them.

Then again: Phone Booth fights are pretty fun too, if you like intense drama.

All depends. I like to see one turn into the other now and then as much as anything in boxing I think. In general I appreciate fighters who understand and can control distance by whatever means suits them, every fight is different.

Yea. It depends for me as well. But, whatever it is, I like to see brutal, minute long mauls that end in GLORIOUS knockouts. lolol... watch the Wlad vs. Brewster 1 fight to see what I mean.

Phone booth betwixt two well matched opponents are fun too watch. The first Alvarado v Rios was a classic. I also like guys like Rigo but at least a little phone booth per fight is a good thing.

What do you mean by phone booth exactly? Chacon/Limon? I really enjoyed those fights. I enjoyed Leonard/Benitez just as much.

OUt of those two choices, Id have to go with long range boxing match.. Fuck phonebooth brawls between two limited fighters.

Like Figueroa-Arakawa for instance.. It did nothing for me. I can't believe people are putting that one as FOTY..

I like both, an all out slug fest can save an otherwise boring card. Two boxer punchers are great to watch too, controlling the ring and pace of the fight, sudden knock downs or knock outs, older, smarter veterans outsmarting younger, faster fighters.
The fights I don't like are two evenly matched boxers--neither with any pop--doing the same thing round after round.

Have you guys even bothered to youtube Locche or Willie? People speak of Whitaker and Floyd for a reason. "Pot shots" What does that even mean? Ali and Leonard were pot shot artists. The idea of this sport is to beat the guy across the ring by punching him in the face and body and not be punched yourself. Its based on a 10 point must system not the time elapsed to get a hot dog.

Castillo vs Corales 1 was a classic phone booth war.

Phone booth fight from quality fighters like Chavez v Rosario, Toney v Williams anytime!

When you're running backwards and pot-shotting you get hit and gas out and get stopped too. Phone booth fights doesn't necessarily mean the other guy is taking a lot of damage... you can be in a phone booth and not get hit. Done it and seen it happen.

As a boxer, I like to counter-punch alot. Fuck phone booth type fighting, it gets really chaotic at times and the technique just seems to go and it turns into a brawl. I rather keep my distance and fight strategically.

Exactly.. this is the mentality of someone who boxes. Fuck phonebooth brawls unless it's one of those moments when it's inevitable.

A fighter can be as skilled as it gets without needing to keep the fight at long range though, that's why the thread is a bit vague. Chavez and Toney were already mentioned, those guys understood the science as well as can be, they just knew what they did best and that was usually in close quarters.
