I dont think mares is all that confident right now. They might be trying to buy more time to train.. rib injury is the easiest excuse to make because they are not noticeable....

You can't be serious? Mares didn't need to fight him the first time and didn't need to come right back at him. Mares might not be the greatest fighter but he hqs always gone right qfter challenges. To question the validity of his injury is insulting to all things sensible. Fans need to get a grip, they're fighters. They chose to fight for a living. Stop putting promoter/manager BS on fighters.

Abner Mares rib injury- Doubts surface in Mexico!

First, my official pick and I am rarely wrong but I have been wrong before. It is psychologically hard to come back to someone that knocked you out the way Mares got knocked out. Just making the fight after that takes a great deal of courage and that is where I draw the line. You cannot expect to mow over an experienced fighter like Gonzalez and walk right into him and he's the bigger man. Jhonny had more fights and more conflicts before Mares started boxing. I expect another L on Abner's resume. Like I said when someone gets your number it's hard to come back unlisted. Let's not forget that he didn't get a chance to throw punches south of the border like when he beat that little guy with the Nickname of that giant gorilla..
