Thread: my problem with showtime commentator scorecards

First off, I like paulie and Bernstein as commentators but their whole argument was ridiculous at the end of the garica/herrera fight. It was a very close fight and I scored it 115-113 for Garcia. I wouldn't have minded a draw or a herrera win. The problem was that they all scored it about 116-112 for herrera and complaining that 2 judges scored it that way for Garcia. I don't see any difference in the extremity of the scoring. Actually, if they were the judges then I might say that they were bias judges. Again, it was a close fight and I didn't at all think the scoring was bad.

Herrera won. It was pretty clear he landed the cleaner punches n more of them despite showstats.

I thought he landed more but Garcia landed the bigger punches throughout the fight. It definitely wasn't a clear cut win for either guy for sure

It was a boring fight. But, in other matters- Garcia looked lethargic. He was clearly not focused to fight hard as he had looked in the past. Perhaps he took this Herrera guy a little too lightly?

Terrible fight for Garcia... it wasn't a good showing. Whatever he did or was doing in preparation for this fight, he should change it.... DRAMATICALLY!!

But, then again, it could be a Mayweather/Castillo 1 type of situation. Things happen.

I thought Herrera decidedly won a tight fight. What I mean is I don't see how you could have Garcia winning, but I didn't think Herrera won by more than a score of 8-4 or 7-5 scores. He controlled the tempo of the fight the whole night-- the right generalship goes to Herrera in almost every round. Garcia never got into a groove. I also never thought Garcia hit him cleanly, which is testament to Herrera's defense. Once Garcia's low blows and his left hook were taken away, he didn't have anything else. He never adjusted to Herrera. The bottom line is that this wasn't a robbery, but Garcia got a gift decision.

I agree with this in most parts except Garcia did hit him cleanly at times and to be fair, there wasn't a great deal of clean punching from either side.

I have not seen the fight but from what you lot have scored it then it was close and could have gone either way depending on how you scored the close rounds. Not a robbery but a close fight.

I think Herrera was landing a lot more cleanly, he just didn't have the power to make it obvious perhaps. Still, I felt the ring generalship he displayed was what clearly made it such a bad decision, here was the light punching slickster who was coming forward confidently in most rounds and pressing the attack, he had Garcia more worried about his power than vice versa in nearly every round. He knew that he wouldn't get a fair shake for his boxing and would need to make the fight, he completely did that, and still didn't get credit for it Garcias body language was that of a guy who was totally lost for most of the fight.

It wasn't Herrera's power that was bothering him, it was the fact that if Danny moved in on Herrera, he got shut down.. If Danny moved away, he allowed himself to get walked down. He was very reluctant on using muscle to make space for shots (bar round 10, I think) and relied on distance to the point of distraction.

Right, Garcia was more worried about getting hit is what I meant, he was never quite confident of being able to do more damage and it showed. Herrera was not only outboxing him but seemed closer to landing hurtful punches in most every exchange imo, you don't get credit just for having more natural punching power if you can't make it count for anything in the fight.

Herrera was faster, had a better jab and was much better at in fighting in the clinch.

He made up for his lack of power with those assets. His jab was unorthodox but very good.

He won.

Watch the fight. And you'll see it for the robbery it was. Garcia dad himself knew they lost the fight. He wasn't celebrating and talking his usual shit after the fight. He knew that Herrera was robbed

I agree, Herrera won the fight.

you guys are talking like garcia didnt do anything in the fight. i agree that garcia looked lost at times in the fight but he clearly won some rounds by countering and getting the better of herrera in some exchanges. herrera controlled the pace of the fight but overall i thought that garcia landed the most crisp and effective punches in the fight. again, it was a close fight either way but in no way a bad decision.

Herrera said it himself, his friends called him pillow fists but what he lacked in power he made up in technique and sticking to his plan. He did land cleanly but with a nickname like pillow fists you won't see all of the punches he landed.
