Default Taureno Johnson was ROBBED vs Curtis Stevens.

Just to say I started a thread to state that....

Rematch in order. No way the ref can do that to a fighter that was on his way to victory. Johnson never even went down. Utter BS.

Johnson should protest and get a No Contest ruling. That was utter BS.

    Corruption at it's finest!!!

Unfortunately, he is going to have to live with it.
The referees decision to stop that fight, under those circumstances, will not be changed.
I agree the stoppage was too quick,
    but that's boxing.

That ref should never ref a match ever again.... that was worse than Froch Groves. Much worse.

Taking bombs against the ropes without throwing anything back is no different than a knockout..

Stoppage was legit imo. Johnson's inexperience cost him ultimaltely..

I suppose Castillo shouldn't have been stopped against Corrales either

I didn't think it was that bad, Stevens pulled it out of the fire no doubt and was taking a beating until then, but he landed some finishers. If a fighter is truly out on the ropes with punches incoming, you can never call it a bad stoppage imo. If a ref hesitates in those spots you can end up with a Mercer-Morrison type finish.

He should have been given a standing 8....

There is no standing 8. At first, I thought it was a tad early too, but then I thought about it and if there's one thing about Stevens it's that he can punch and Johnson was on the ropes not blocking punches from a big puncher. So perhaps it was a tad early, but I'm not all that mad about it, if that makes sense.

Seriously im sick of hearing about standing 8 counts. There is no such thing.

It's a common excuse fighters and their fans make to justify a loss..

It would have been a brutal KO if it carried on. Johnson was in a lot of trouble, such a good fight though I rewatched it the other day because it had that much good action in it.

It was a fair stoppage. I didn't watch it live and when I heard the reviews I was expecting a robbery. Nothing wrong with the stoppage refs are there to protect fighters, he did his job

@ykdadamaja - I thought Taureno Johnson fought a great fight. He won almost every round before being knocked out and he brought the fight to Stevens, who is a puncher. Even though he was stopped, it wasn't brutal by any means. He won a lot of fans that night and I'm confident he'll get another good fight soon.

I stick with my initial reaction, it was a bad stoppage. If it was the 1st round roles reversed would feel the same way. We are not taking the shots, and we are not putting them out and we want to have confidence in the officials but it wasn't Johnson being bludgeoned on the ropes. It was a crisp hard hook, some missed follow up and Johnson still having mind to get the gloves up going to the ropes hard. Refs should have more tools at there discretion and yes that includes the 8 count or a flat count if ropes 'hold' a guy up. It may very well be that the biggest 'bad decision' is that there doesn't seem to be a huge push or cry for a needed rematch in what was one helluva fight. This is a commonsense must see rematch.

He would have got schooled by Ndam anyway so he managed to avoid a legit loss

This was voted as one of the fights of the year by ESPN and I agree, such good action
