Tony Weeks, widely regarded as one of the best referees on the planet, was appointed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Thursday to serve as the 3rd man in the ring for the welterweight unification fight between pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Weeks, of Las Vegas, is likely to be officiating his third Mayweather bout. He also served as the referee for Mayweather's unanimous decision victories against Miguel Cotto in a 2012 junior middleweight world title fight and Juan Manuel Marquez in a 2009 welterweight bout. Dave Miller Freesportspicksdaily.com writes "This is where i have sympathy for referee’s. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t sometimes."
