Default The elite should fight more..

Its been talked about to death and I know it takes a long time to generate a fight but surely these elite fighters can muster 3 fights a year.

How long has this two fights a year stuff been going on for?!

Floyd is just as guilty in all of this and I know that money rules and building a pay per view and all this bollocks but surely a promotor can generate more in money with 3 carefully planned fights a year?!

    Floyd
    Ward
    Pac
Wlad (im sure he fights alot more than the above)

Froch should be fighting again in August and another fight in december..get your finger out eddie!

Same with the UFC elite and the 2 fight a year syndrome.

Since 2004 Wlad has averaged 2 fights a year. They're all guilty.

You are in dreamland if you expect these "elite" fighters to fight 3 times a year.

    1. In boxing elite usually translates to older. Older fighters want and need more down time. IMO

    2. Boxers are like the rest of us, they have family and friends they want to spend time with. They like to relax, go fishing, hunting or just kick back and do nothing. When they get to the "elite" level they might even think they deserve the time off.

    3. It seems to me that when you reach that level every fight is a major decision. Would you want to fight three times a year?

    4. There is no boxing season which means there is no off season for boxers. I think some of you guys think boxers should fight once a month.

Agreed. 2 a year is lazy. 2 big fights and then a stay busy fight hometown fight each year should be routine. You are going to be retired by 35 so should strike it lucky while you can.

Agreed 100%, especially with the first point. Guys like Mayweather and Pacquaio are starting to near 40, they've both been fighting for nearly 20 years which means a lot of stress + wear and tear on the body... at that age, you really have to pace yourself for the home stretch. The body needs a lot more time to recoup at their age.

if they fought more that would also mean more PPVs a year also. There's already like 10 this year so that means wed have to pay more plus they are already running out of opponents which means wed end up having to pay to watch Mayweather vs #13 ranked welter. No thank you. The ones that need to fight more are the up an comers like Thurman Garcia , Porter , Mattyhsse and so one. Only real active ones are GGG and Canelo

Also very true. You have to worry about over saturating the market.

By fighting once or twice a year, Floyd has made it an event in itself when he fights.

If he was fighting much more, it wouldn't be such an event and you wouldn't get the same hype. The Superbowl is huge because it happens once a year. If the NFL suddenly said "ok now we're gonna do 3 or 4 superbowls a year", it wouldn't be such an "event".

    Mmmm.

Nah. As a selfish fan Im sure we could squeeze out 3 fights a year for the garcias and khans out there.

Its not going to change anything but I needed to have that little rant!

I do not care about them fighting more as much as fighting quality fighters. Too many good matches are not happening because of the excuse matchmakers, different networks and personalities getting in the way. Poor cards on ppv which is sucking the support of boxing fans.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

Everything you said is true, hurts boxing and I wish there was something we could do about it.
As a fan I know how hard it is to say I'm not going to watch this or that fight, for whatever reason, then be able to stick to your guns on fight night.

I agree. But it's not just about building the fight, guys who fight less often can have a longer career. I think those 12 round fights take something out of you too, guys could be resting their 'brains' recent Concussion research has shown how bad they are.

A fighting champion is what we all want and should be expected but I'd just be happy with more quality over quantity. The whole loftiness of elite is that a guy picks and chooses with a few exceptions where they just rake in millions and blowing out trumped up pretenders. Just fight the best available not just to have a billion dollar sparring match over in, ohhh Germany for example Then again you have a non elite and one who most likely will never be 'great' but Leo Santa Cruz wins and defends 6 times in 13 months. Network dates and venues can also have everything to do with it.
