Broner and Algieri fight nothing alike and fought Taylor nothing alike.
Styles make fights. I'd have to see more of algeri first. Broner has definitely shown his weaknesses.
Broner is more talented and probably just as, if not more, skilled. Algeri I is smarter and more disciplined, and Broner is a "lazier" fighter. I think Algeri beats Broner in a head to head in a tough fight. Broner hits much harder and of he would use all if his skills consistently throughout the fight I think Broner would win. At this point I see broner giving some good counters and trouble spots, but not being consistent enough to win.
Indeed and that's how Algieri beat Taylor. He boxed and was never there for Taylor. Broner took the other route knowing Taylor historically couldn't crack an egg and essentially fought him. I'm a fan of Broners style but not the guy and every time he opens his mouth I cringe a little longer. Manny can fight who he wants imo. He has nothing left to prove.Algieri's boxing and moving made it look like Taylor was pulling a load of livestock but I dont see him freezing up Manny.
We have all talked on here before about Broners footwork or lack of it. He chooses to work behind the shoulder with that freak stance as its part of his D for better or worse. He certainly has his problems when forced backwards. He does not plod in like say Lamotta or Pavlik but he keeps his stance almost in the same spot and inches forward w/o closing that gap. To his credit he did show some good movement last night but he was not fighting the A-side. I never thought speaking of plodders that Maidana would be able to get him out of that but he did.
I doubt Garcia fights Lucas and is most likely 47 bound anyway so there is no reason why Lucas and Broner cant go at it although Haymon may have other plans.
@Freedom - you know that styles make fights, just because fighter A beat fighter B and fighter B beat fighter C, doesn't mean that fighter A beats fighter C.
With that said, Algieri seems a more complete boxer than Broner. Broner has more explosiveness, but Algieri has more dimensions. Algieri also has shown he can stick to a game plan and make adjustments. Broner hasn't really demonstrated he's capable of that yet. I would probably say Algieri would handle his own against a lot of the top junior welterweights. Perhaps not winning every fight in the 140 gauntlet of Garcia, Matthysse, Broner, Provo again, Postol etc.
Speaking of Postol. Will Garcia vacate or face him in a mandatory fight. If he vacates, who about Matthysse-Postol?
I think Broner is better than Algieri and would be a better/harder fight for Manny.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
