    Default Juanma retires

Anybody else hear this, apparently he says he has taken enough beatings and wants to preserve his health for his kids. The bottom did drop out for him recently.

That's for the best but I'm betting he makes at least 1 comeback

I was thinking the same, he is 31, still has time left.

Yeah I got that. I was trying to recall what kind of cash he made during his career. He made no mention of his plans for the future.

He was done after the Salido beatings. If he couldn't beat Salido, then there really wasn't very much for him to do at that weight- or at any other weight above.

I hope he made enough money to get out, the guy is done! He could and perhaps already has gotten seriously hurt, reacts terribly to shots now, he has no time left at all. Even before he fought Salido he took wicked punishment, anyone who hasn't seen the Mtagwa fight watch that one, total life and death over the last rounds.

He isn't the type of fighter who could ever come back stronger from any defeat I don't think, not to slight him but he was such a physical fighter and only knows how to trade. All the beatings he's taken have clearly affected him already, and to now have had two bad ones in two months is ridiculous. If he fights anyone remotely good ever again he's an idiot, and some people should be ashamed of themselves.

As a big Juanma fan I'm glad to hear it. He's at the point now where he's getting blown out in early rounds. Those Salido fights really killed him, not just knockouts but fights with lots of punches eaten, knockdowns, ect. BEst of luck to him.

Hope we don't see him in the ring again.
Watching him collapse on his face was not enjoyable to me, at all.

Good decision. He was done after Salido beat him.

I don't know that the Salido fights ruined him, as much as they just highlighted the fact that he was a guy who only knew how to fight that way. Obviously losing a war will usually take a lot out of a guy, but he never actually showed that he could adapt or defend himself under pressure beforehand. Mtagwa(who was a journeyman) and an ancient, undersized Rafael Marquez, hit him with all sorts of shit and took him right to the brink before he met Salido. I think Mikey Garcia would have done the same to him whether he was a little fresher or not, and perhaps the same is even true for his last two opponents, who both look promising. Again, that's not to say he isn't totally worn out now, I'm just not sure he wasn't always quite beatable.

Maybe someone on here has seen some of his earlier fights to have a better idea of whether he really declined all that quickly or just happened to fight the right guys that couldn't drag him into deep water Either way, dude needs to stay away from the ring.

In fairness a lot of his tougher fight came after his first loss.

Would have like to see him win his last fight.
