    Default Jack Bodell ~ "Uncrowned Champion"

    Jack Bodell

    An 'almost was' Uncrowned Champion.

    While Jack could be 'clocked', his style was the perfect ointment for the likes of >
    * Cassius Clay
    * Ernie Terrell
    * Jimmy Ellis
    * Buster Mathis

    It was all about his 'Southpaw Stance' and awkward style that perplexed most of his opponents.

    Lets take a look...............

    Jack Bodell was a pig farmer from Derbyshire if I remember correctly, a ugly ungainly style frankly
    bloody terrible to watch.

    1966

    Jack Bodell got some 'good ink', when he literally beat the Crap out of Rudy Clay in a
    London sparring session.

    This got Brother Cassius to issue a challenge to the 26 year-old Jack Bodell.

    Jerry Quarry had the best line about Bodell. Pre fight the feeling was Jack was going to be an awkard opponent for Quarry, having just decisioned Joe Bugner.

    Quarry knocked out Bodell in 64 seconds. Post fight Jerry was asked if Bodell had indeed been an awkward opponent, Quarry replied:

    "He kinda fell down awkward!"

    Jack Bodell

    September 1966, in Frankfurt, Germany

    Jack Bodell did spar with Cassius Clay in helping him prepare for Karl Mildenberger.

    Usually 2-Round sessions each day.

    Jack Bodell >
    "Oh that Clay is fast, and is a surprising hard-hitting bloke. But if you back him up, he's
    human."

    Looks like you've got a bit of a point Bill, although we never really took to 'The Swadlingcote Swineherd' in those days.
