Thread: Mike Jones

I was watching Martinez vs Pavlik and I seen they showed highlights from Mike Jones. I haven't heard anything about him since he lost to Bailey back in 2012 by that nasty KO. So I did some research I guess he fought back in August and he was stopped in the 7th round against Jamie Herrera (12 (7) -2 ) what are your guys thoughts? He was a big welterweight and he moved and boxed well he didn't have a exciting style but he seemed like he could give some welterweights some problems due mostly on he's size. What do you guys think ? You think well ever see him again?

Not now he was out roughly 2 years after Bailey shattered his chin and dreams this recent loss all but hammered the final nail into the coffin

I do wonder if his 'peak' ran its course in all of 2 Soto Karass fights. Gifted and in Hell in the first, disciplined and boxing in rematch. Great physical tools always but that's only as good as your focus, and chin.

Props to Mike Jones for coming back to fight again after that KO loss to Bailey.

Lesser men have retired after such a frightful KO loss.

I'd say he could still fight other former prospects like Kermit Cintron and Victor Ortiz.

At the moment he's a sparring partner for Pacquiao

i remember having a chat on here about mike jones, the very calm, collected and polite saddomembers i was chatting to were under the very reserved opinion that Jones would beat kell brook quite easily

i suggested perhaps that this wouldnt be the case

we had a nice light debate on the subject

I think Bailey ruined him.

He is working as a high priced sparring partner for Manny going into his fight wth Algieri. No doubt Freddie has him on some other assignments.

Don't forget, good or even half decent guys can make a mint off of the sparring circuit. $100k and up for about 2-3 months worth of work, etc... is still good money.

Mike Jones is a talented fighter who I forgot about. He has all the tools to be a champion. Hope he gets out of the sparring partner mentality and gets his career back on track.

I agree with you but it doesn't look good losing to a guy with only 14 fights. But I think there are still some winnable fights for him like against Berto , Collazo , Guerrero. Like I said hes size is probably the best think he could have at welterweight he could out box Garcia and maybe even Broner all if he gets hes head together.
