"Miguel Herrera Upsets 'Flash Torres By Split-Decision"

Felipe ' The Flash' Torres was upset by a 10-Round Split-Decision to Ecuadorian
Miguel Herrera.

Felipe {131 lbs.} one of the hottest fighters out of east Los Angeles and
World Rated at #9 at Junior-Lightweight got off to a slow start during the
early going.

Miguel Herrera {129 1/2 lbs.} was the stronger fighter over the first 3-Rounds,
as he used a thudding left-hook to the body that bothered Felipe.

The 27 year-old Ecuadorian showed both strength and power, as Felipe was
forced to retreat.

Felipe got his left-hand going in Round 4, as he thwarted Herrera's hard
body attack with a steady flow of sharp left jabs to the head.

But the Ecuadorian was right back to working hard in Rounds 5 and 6, and
pounded Felipe's body with hooks.

Badly behind on points entering the 7th Round, Felipe opened up with a
two-fisted attack as Miguel Herrera slowed down some.

Felipe kept up the high work-rate in Rounds 8 and 9, and shook Herrera
with several solid straight right-hands to the head in each session.

In the Final Round, both fighters looked tired, and both spent the Round
by staying inside and in close quarters at Center-Ring. Both fighters
exchanged non-stop with numerous, but light body blows.

"The Bout"

"Felipe Torres Scores Solid Decision Win Over Ray Vega In Mexico City"

Los Angeles- Felipe Torres scored a solid 10-Round Decision over tough Mexican
Ray Vega at the Arena Coliseo in Mexico City.

Felipe {132 lbs.} used fast footwork and quick combinations to score repeatedly
in each Round.

Ray Vega {131 lbs.} who had a big local Mexico City following, came in with a
reputation as a tough inside fighter. But Ray but could not break through Felipe's
tough defense, and instead walked into constant flurries.

Felipe landed numerous left-jabs into Vega's face throughout the first-half of the
bout.

Felipe was the clear-cut winner in 5 of the first 6 Rounds, and also jolted Ray
several times with counter right-hands to the head.

Starting off in Round 7, Felipe was boxing smoothly, and smartly cruised during
Rounds 7, 8 and 9.

In the 10th and Final Round, Felipe opened up and poured it on. He drove Vega
all over the Ring with right-hand crosses and rocked him several times. With
5-Seconds left in the bout, Felipe landed a big looping right-hand to the Vega's
jaw and dropped him.

Felipe was awarded a Unanimous 10-Round Decision.

The Arena Coliseo fans threw coins in the Ring after the bout, as appreciation
for Felipe's fine performance.

Felipe Torres improved to 19-4-1.

takes on exciting Mexican 'slugger' Ricardo Arredondo.

Ricardo had been campaigning as a Bantamweight thru early-1969, and was ranked
as the #7 Bantamweight by Ring Magazine.

But the growing Mexican was now moving up to the Super-Featherweight Division.

'The Bout'

Ricardo Arredondo has the edge in height {5' 7"} to Felipe's {5' 5"}, but both
are equal in strength.

Felipe is cautious early as Ricardo presses hard with winging hooks to both the
head and body.

By the end of Round 2, it is clear that Ricardo is the harder hitter, as he slammed
his way inside.

But in Round 3, Felipe tags Ricardo with a big right-hand to the head and wobbles
him with a follow up 'right-left' to the chin.

The action is non-stop in Rounds 4, 5 and 6 - as both fighters trade with heavy
blows. Felipe does get through a few times with solid right-hands, and shakes
Ricardo several times.

But Ricardo rallies, and he gets the better of the exchanges in Rounds 7 and 8,
as Felipe is starting to fade from the fast pace of Ricardo.

The last 2-Rounds are fought evenly, as both trade left-jabs and counter rights.

"Shozo Saijo Defeats Felipe Torres In Non-Title Go"

In an over-the-weight 'non-title' bout, WBA Featherweight Champion - Shozo Saijo
scored a well-fought 10-Round Majority Decision over Los Angeles - Felipe Torres.

Shozo Saijo used his powerful attacks in the 1st and 2nd Rounds, and floored Felipe
in Round 2 with a solid 'left-right' to the chin.

But Felipe was both youthful and tough, and fought back with a rigorous attack
during the Middle-Rounds {Rounds 4, 5 and 6} to close the gap.

The Champion regrouped, and returned with his hard-attack in Rounds 7 and 8
and kept Felipe on the defensive.

But Felipe withstood Shozo's relentless attacks and came back hard by countering
with jolting left-jabs to the Champion's face in Rounds 9 and 10 to sweep the
last 2-Rounds.

Felipe put up a good fight right up to the Final Bell and almost scored an 'upset'
Decision over the WBA Featherweight Champion in this 'non-title' bout.

Immediately, Kuniaki Shibata shows his strength-and-speed, and outhustles the
tough Felipe Torres over the early going.

The action is fast and brisk, as both fighters exchange with sharp punches.

Thru 5-Rounds, Kuniaki has the clear-edge in Points 25-21 {4-0-1 in Rounds}

But Felipe comes on, and has a strong rally early in Round 6, and nearly drops
Kuniaki with a 'double' right-hand to the head.

But the Japanese fighter shows his durability, and comes back late in the Round
with his own hard attack, and shakes Felipe with several volley's.

The last 4-Rounds are fought briskly, but Kuniaki has the slightest-edge in each

'The Bout'

Roberto came out fast with both fists blazing, as he threw 'two-fisted' combinations in
both Rounds 1 and 2.

But Felipe was not in the least bit intimated, and came back with jolting left-hands to
Roberto's face in Round 3.

Roberto came back charging in Round 4, and bounced 'left-right' bombs off of Felipe's head
and bloodied his nose.

But Felipe was able to stall Roberto in Round 5, as he stayed in close and smothered Roberto
with clean in-fighting.

In Rounds 6 and 7, Felipe unleashed with a flurry of punches that 'stunned' Roberto, and
had Roberto in a 'bad-way' several times.

Roberto was able to clear his head in Round 8, and returned with hard 'left-right' combinations
to out-hustle Felipe over the session.

Coming out for Round 9, Roberto had a 'slight-edge', but Felipe was right there in the fight.

Both fighters were still fresh, and each landed solid punches early that shook each other.
Later in the Round, Roberto was able to back Felipe into a Corner, and scored with a steady
volume of body punches to edge out Round 9.

In Round 10 {Final Round}, Roberto was told by his Corner to jab and stay on the cautious
side.

In the meantime, Felipe went out hard and tried to take out Roberto with a series of right-hands
to the head and left-hooks to the body.

It was Felipe's Round, but he came up just short on the scorecards.

A closely contested bout over the first-half of the bout, as both boxers exhibit
good Ring-Technique mixed in with clever counter-punching.

But Felipe starts to tire in Round 6, and Enrique starts to take command with
smart in-fighting.

Both fighters are in 'cruise-control' during Round 7, as the action lulls. Felipe
does rally late with a good '7-Punch' combination to edge out the Round.

But Enrique picks up the pace mid-way through Round 8, and dominates the
last 3-Rounds with sharp in-fighting while backing up Felipe to the Ropes.

out-poke Felipe over the first-half of the bout to build up a wide-points
lead.

The action closes up some during Round 7, as Felipe is able to get inside

Badly behind on Points, Felipe rallies in Rounds 8 and 9, and shakes the
the tall bean with right-hand crosses.

But Al digs in, and withstands the furious rallies from Felipe.

In Round 10, Felipe goes all-out and slams Robinson with numerous right-hands
sending him reeling around the Ring.

Robinson is staggered late from a right-hand to the head, but just barely hangs
on to make it the Final Bell.

'The Bout'

Immediately, Angel Mayoral shows off his skills, and he 'rapid-fires' right-jabs
and left-hooks into Felipe's face and mid-section.

Thru 3-Rounds, Angel is the dominant boxer, and he is pitching a shut-out.

But things get rough in Round 4 for Angel, as Felipe starts unloading his straight
right-hand bombs in to Angel's face.

By the end of Round 4, Angel is cut over the right-eye, and the blood is flowing.

In Round 5, Felipe pours it on, and shakes Angel several times with straight right-hands
'down' Broadway. Angel is having difficulty with his vision, as his right-eye is covered
with blood.

At the end of Round 5, the Ring Physician checks out Angel, and permits the bout
to continue.

The Bell rang for Round 6, but Manager - Sid Flaherty decided to call the bout off.

where the two battled to a 10-Round Draw in an exciting bout at The Arena
in San Bernadino.

On the other hand, Felipe is coming off a 'big upset' win {TKO 6} over
Angel Mayoral only 6-Weeks earlier here at the Valley Music Theatre.

"The Bout"

Raul Montoya at 5' 3", went right after Felipe's body in the 1st-Round, and
scored with a variety of solid hooks.

In Round 2, Raul again attacked the body, and then moved upstairs and caught
Felipe {5' 5 1/2"} with a hard left-hook to the head, and a short right-hand to
the point-of-the-chin.

Felipe was sent down on his 'Rump'. Felipe got up at the '3-Count', and got on
his bicycle as Raul chased him around the Ring.

Raul kept up the pressure in Rounds 3 and 4, but he was unable to issue any
damage to Felipe who withstood the charges.

By Round 5, Raul was looking a bit tired, and Felipe was able to steal the Round
with some rapid flurries.

Felipe stepped up the pace during Rounds 6 thru 9, and kept Raul on the outside
on the end of his punches.

By Round 10, Raul was leg-weary and he was unable to maintain any constant
pressure on the 'elusive' Felipe.

In the meantime, Felipe was using stiff left-jabs to keep Raul from getting inside
where he could deliver his powerful left-hooks to the Felipe's body.

Felipe then came on strong over the last 2-Rounds, and peppered away with stiff
left-jabs mixed in with right-crosses to Raul's head to sweep Rounds 11 and 12.

Felipe takes command from the Opening Bell, and lathers Lovelle with an
assortment of lefts-and-rights to the face.

In Rounds 2 and 3, it is much of the same as Lovelle has nothing to offer up
in offense to slow down Felipe.

In Rounds 4 and 5, Felipe digs left-hooks to the body, as Lovelle starts
to fade badly.

In Round 6, Felipe lands several hard right-hands to the head and Lovelle
goes down at the {1:35 Mark}.

Lovelle is up at the '7-Count' and wants to continue.

Felipe resumes with his hard attack, and batters Lovelle. Late in the Round
Felipe scores with a hard right-hand to the head.

Lovelle goes down and is counted out @ 2:52 of Round 6.

"Robertson Jabs His Way To Decision"

It was expected to be an evenly matched bout, and a dangerous fight for
the Olympic house fighter - Jimmy Robertson to take.

But Jimmy came out quickly, and used a variety of punches to stall any attacks
from Felipe Torres.

Jimmy {135 1/2 lbs.} won a surprisingly easy 10-Round Decision over the normally
tough Felipe Torres {134 lbs.}.

From Round 3 and on, Jimmy used an assortment of left-hands to baffle Felipe.

By the 8th Round, Felipe was hopelessly behind, and only Felipe's courage prevented
him from being KO'd over the last 2-Rounds.
