Khan faces a doddle against Algieri
30-3 British star Amir Khan finds himself in a safe bout against former WBO World Light-Welterweight titlist Chris Algieri.
Khan knows that a loss against the New Yorker Algieri would end his daydream of a huge showdown with the pound-for-pound no.2 Floyd Mayweather, and could call time on any world title ambitions he holds - although it must be noted that he refused a career high payday plus "world" title shot against fellow Brit, IBF champion Kell Brook.
The Bolton ace is returning to BoxNation - because Sky wasn't interested in buying this gimme - after scoring a stunning and comprehensive unanimous decision against Devon Alexander in his last outing. On that night, last December, Khan completely outclassed two-weight world champ Alexander at the MGM Grand to further raise his stock with the American audience and push him closer to world title contention - although it must be noted that he refused a "world" title shot against fellow Brit Kell Brook.
Khan has successfully rebuilt his career after suffering back-to-back defeats at light-welterweight in 2011 and 2012, and will enter the Barclays Center ring coming off a four-fight winning streak. The 28-year-old started the run with a comeback win against Carlos Molina before stepping up to welterweight to beat Julio Diaz on his homecoming fight and BoxNation debut.
A highly impressive win over Luis Collazo on the Mayweather v Maidana 1 card followed in May 2014 as Khan returned to the US, before he defeated Alexander last time out.
A win over Algieri would set up the British former Olympic star for a mouthwatering potential September showdown with box office superstar Floyd Mayweather - depending on the the outcome of Floyd's public fan poll.
