    ~ The Skinny ~

Former Heavyweight Champion - Primo Carnera was on the 'comeback trail' after getting
demolished {L TKO 11} by Max Baer back on June 14, 1934 - as he lost his Heavyweight
    Championship.

Primo was also 'destroyed' {L TKO 6} by fast-rising Joe Louis 1-year later on June 25, 1935.

But the 'Italian Giant' was not finished, and scored '4-Straight' wins in his comeback run,
and moved back up to the #3 Heavyweight in the World Rankings.

Still relatively young at {Age; 29 years, 5 months}, Primo felt that with a good win here,
he would be able to earn a Challenge at the Heavyweight Championship.

At the time, Madison Square Garden was in the middle of putting together a bout between
Champion - James Braddock and Primo Carnera for June 1936.

The fighters agreed to terms on February 25, 1936

~ Former Champion - Primo Carnera Favored over Los Angeles Negro Slugger ~

Primo Carnera, in a quest to reclaim his World Championship will face 'husky' Los Angeles slugger - Leroy Haynes.

The former Champion who is in fine shape, has been listed as a 7-2 Betting-Favorite over the hard-punching Negro.

The boxing pundits are in agreement, that Leroy Haynes will be most dangerous during the first 4-Rounds, as he
    carries 'guns' in both fists.

But Carnera has the advantage in height, reach and will also bring in the Ring a 65 lb. weight advantage. Those
along with a heavy left-jab and much more Ring experience will be the telling difference over the second-half of
    the bout.

The 'Mammoth-sized' Carnera will have some difficulty early with the hard-punching Haynes, but he should be
able to utilize his left-jab enough to score a 10-Round Decision win. If Carnera can 'unlock' his right-uppercut,
he may also be able to score a stoppage in either Round 9 or 10 if Haynes is not in shape.

    Leroy Haynes

The Los Angeles Bomber - Leroy Haynes

The 6-Year Professional started off his career in 1930. But in May 1935, Philadelphia Fight Promoter
Herman Taylor convinced Leroy to move to Philadelphia.

Over the past 2 1/2 yeas, Leroy has compiled a record of 11-2-1 {8 KO's}, with the only losses
coming by {L Dec 10} to 'cagey' Al Ettore in mid-1935.

Since those losses, Haynes has gone unbeaten in '7-Bouts'.

The Haynes Camp have been 'targeting' the former Champion - Primo Carnera for the past year,
as they believe that the West-Coast Slugger has too much of an aggressive-style for the lumbering
    Carnera.

~ Da Preem Is Creamed By The New Black Menace ~

    ~ Primo Beaten Senseless ~

The Ambling Alp - Primo Carnera saw his dream of regaining the World Heavyweight Championship
ended by an ebony-colored toy by the name of Leroy Haynes.

The Mountainous Carnera was turned into a mess by the hard-swinging Haynes, as the bout
was stopped at the {0:53 Mark} of Round 3.

Despite having a 68 lb. weight advantage, Carnera was thoroughly thrashed in every session of
    the one-sided bout.

In the Opening Round, Carnera used his long left-hand to jab at the patient Haynes who was waiting
    to counter.

For the first 2-minutes Carnera was able to keep the hard-hitting Haynes at bay. But Carnera's left-hands
were easily avoided, as Haynes either 'swatted' or slid away from the heavy, but slow punches.

Just past the {2:10 Mark}, Haynes moved in and 'tagged' the big Italian with a thunderous right-hand to
the jaw, and Carnera was 'stunned'.

Haynes moved in quickly, and landed no less than '7' solid right-hands into Carnera's exposed head,
driving him backwards and reeling into the Corner. Haynes nearly dropped Carnera with a 'wicked'
left-right to the jaw, and had Carnera wavering at the {2:30 Mark}.

Haynes unloaded with both fists, and 'staggered' Carnera again, just before the Bell sounded to save
the former Champion from further punishment.
