Default Tragedy: Fighter dies after bout

Lightweight Jackson Bussell passed away on Friday after battling Javier Garcia to a draw on Thursday night at the Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas, California. Bussell, who took the bout on late notice, gave a good account of himself in the fight, but seemed to run out of gas late.

I'd rather be knocked out cold with one single punch, than receive some creeping damaging accumulation of regular punches in the head.

Brain shakes like a bowl of jelly, and it will baloon up... forcing the vein to burst.

there needs to be a minimum amount of time for a substitution...like 3-4 weeks....this last minute stuff will only worsen boxing's image..

Very sad news. Sounds like maybe he was underprepared to fight. Im sure he loved to fight and he died doing what he loved but still a huge tragedy. Thoughts and prayers with him and his family RIP.

Me too. I live two exits off the 101. I was considering going but had an emergency come up at the last minute. I hate witnessing that sort of thing. I was also present when Vic Darchinyan put that one dude in a coma and he had to have emergency surgery.

It is very sad that this sort of thing still happens, but as we all know this is a man's sport and everyone who gets through the ropes knows that it can be brutal and that people can get hurt. Of course it is a tragedy, but you also have to feel for his opponent, who will now have to hold that guilt with him for the rest of his life.

I was thinking about going to these fights as a friend of mine that works for a radio station had tickets but at the last minute I ended up going out with some friends elsewhere..

    May he R.I.P.

A good referee should know exactly when to stop the fight.

    This is a bad example...
