    Default Gavin Rees? ((contains result))

Anyone fancy explaining how the funk he's got this shot? (i know, i know)

A record that consists of nothing but journeymen, has absolutely no physical advantages at all.

This looks as big a mismatch as Enzo-Gunn

To be honest with you, Rees is going to be a big underdog...and you're right he's unproven. But I'm going to point to a recent example, that of Kelly Pavlik. Personally, there was nothing on his record until Edison Miranda, and with fighters that have developed undefeated records to this extent, their first test will always be a big one, and I think we'll get to see whether Rees will sink or swim here this weekend.

M'baye is way away from being the greatest champion, and so nearly lost last time out, so no better time for Rees to get his shot.

    Jeezus that's optimism for ya

Think you're off with the Pavlik comparision, mate. Pavlik had started to look like a world class operator going into the Miranda fight.

I'm not sure Rees could even win the British title

Well not just a comparison with Pavlik, but the situation in general, because as well as Rees being nothing like Pavlik, M'baye is nothing near Miranda in my opinion, but i think the levels they're at is the same, and with Rees finally being motivated and getting a shot, you never know. Mark Pretend you never heard my words.

M'Baye is a beatable champ but I'll still be shocked if Rees wins. He's fought absolutely nobody.

His opponents record is 316-815-44 with a 27% win rate. Thats ok for a 3 year fighter, but Rees's recent is even LOWER in his recent fights.

I'm not saying he can't win. I know better than that. But I fail to see why he got this shot (ok, I know why) and how he can win...

    Good luck to him though.

M'Baye is a shocking champion. If Rees loses this, he should retire, and then I'll work down to 140lbs, put the gloves on and knock the shit outta M'Baye myself.

I'm not a stats man but that one (taansend posted) says it all.

Ive seen Rees fight a few times when he was around FEATHER. M'baye might be no great shakes but i really will be SHOCKED if he doesn't beat the shit out of Rees.

    That was shocking. You're Shocked.

Well, well, Rees confounded everyone, including me when he won that belt. Despite having that Welshman's hope in the face of all the facts, I never really thought Rees would be able to do what he did. Fantastic for him, and I hope he can continue to hang on to the belt, because no way is he a natural LWW.

Respect to the little fella. Some of the lads on the Hatton site had a punt at 8/1 on him. Wish I'd of chanced it now.

Can't see him hanging about at 140 too long though..well, long enough to get a defence in but I can't really see who'd be next...

I can't believe people are so surprised. I though Rees would win. Not because of him, but M'Baye is one of the worst 'world' champs I've ever seen. Lazy bastard who is there to be hit. Found out doesn't even begin to describe Saturday night's performance.
