thanks for that =#]
Thats cricket
CC Mattyhitman.
I see Cotto is sparring with very big southpaws.
I wonder what Cotto's fight plan will be? I have watched him fight so many different styles, I have no clue what he will bring to the ring. One thing is for sure, look for that left hook to the head and to the body. That is his bread and butter. As long as he does not hurt his hand again, he should do just fine. Cotto/Quintana should be a great fight.
Go MAC GO!
Cheers DannyG
Here is what Rolando ( the lad who shot the vid ), said about the session;
Miguel Cotto was Focusing on his Power Punches and Power Attacks for a few rounds..... Its just a regular day with the objective of praticing on his arsenal for 4 rounds.. ( Against a big guy with heavy hands)
Then they changed his sparring partner, A quick, fast southpaw with good latheral movements.
Cotto was focusing on his Defence and was mostly Bob and Weaving and blocking punches for another 4 rounds... Practicing on his reflects vs a southpaw.
The Floor Matt has triple padding... It feels like your walking on sand..
Its purpose is to force the boxer to raise his feet while moving in the ring.
It helps gain balance and works out you legs.. When you see a fighter that trips on the matt, its because he's not raising his feet high enough and drags them.. If he were to train in a triple padded matt, he would not have that problem since he will gain proper feet movement and balance.
After sparring he goes to do floor exercise including jump roping and other routines.
And also;
Some people.. guys who are not familiar with boxing training, Would say that Cotto looks a bit slow throwing his punches...
You must remember that there using big 18 0z gloves that slows you down and tires you faster... It gives them more stamina and speed when they fight with the small gloves during fight night... It also helps protect there sparring partners.
Besides using 18oz gloves for lets say 8 rounds ( With ONLY 30 SECOND rest )
They need to learn how to conserve energy for the rest of the workouts which includes Mitts, speed bag, Punching bags, Double bags and lots of floor exercise.
Those that train throwing non stop punches with 18 oz gloves and 30 second rest between rounds wont have the stamina nor energy to continue training after 8 rounds.. Its very important to finish the whole routine of training because each session has a purpose to help develope the necesary skills and sharpen the technics so the fighter will be at his peak in fight night.
Around 2 weeks before the fight, They will do intense sparring. It is here were they will throw more punches and move more fighting up to 14 rounds with 30 seconds of recovery rest.. Every 4 rounds they will bring in a new fresh Sparring partner.. So after 8 rounds, Cotto will be facing a fresh new Sparring partner in the 9th round who is Full on energy, speed and quick movements, Cotto would have to adopt and dig deep using his well develope skills and experiance to finish a hard intense sparring session...
Ive herd that Carlos Quintana is in Great condition and preparing very hard for Cotto.
This will be a hard fight for both fighter..

Ok, thanks for adding what Rolando said about the video/training. A lot of it now makes more sense. I did notice the large gloves and the matt did catch my attention but I did not know about that trick I have a feeling we are going to see a very fast Cotto in his bout against Quintana.Originally Posted by Mattyhitman
It's time for Cotto to take a big match.
His upper body looks awesome, he'll be an absolute beast as a welter! Can't wait for this fight.
Remember the good old days, we miss you Marco!
Love his work ethic, heres hoping 147 is a good fit for him.Originally Posted by Mattyhitman
