I like that idea, it's why I'm a Libertarian.....although I do have a strong belief in American exceptionalism and that if we're in a war then we should do what it takes to win the war and prevent another war shortly thereafter due to a lopsided treaty.

What an embarrassing excuse for an argument.

There is no such thing as absolute proof

Infowars and Paul Watson are hardly unbiased reasonable and informed sources from which to garner such a thing as 'Absolute Proof'

Alex Jones, Paul Watson and Infowars have an agenda just like the other big corporations

Liberalism is supposedly something promoting liberty and equality. Something I thought even Dia as a socialist and Lyle as a capitalist could agree upon. What is seems to mean in this instance is anyone who doesn't agree with Brockton who flits between bleeding hearted liberal and neo conservative depending on which way the wind is blowing.

    Mental Disorder ?

    Paul Watson ?
    Alex Jones ?
Somebody who when challenged starts thread after thread hurling sucky suckys at anyone who dare contradict them ?

Melting pot eh? Meaning those coming to the United States need to assimilate....do that and nobody complains. Expect us to accept Sharia law when you're a guest in this country and you can go get fucked!

Coming to the United States means you have to accept certain ideas and values....you don't come here with a list of demands!
So my understanding of melting pot must be wrong. I thought it meant to bring about a perfect mix of all 'ingredients' together, with no one ingredients or values dominating or dictating others.
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.

It means you can keep your culture, keep your language, keep your traditions and values, but The Constitution is the law of this land (America) and if your culture, religion, language, traditions, and values, attempt to FORCE that on others then I'm sorry yeah you've misunderstood the idea of the melting pot.

People who come to America should be interested in becoming American, they shouldn't try to force Americans to adapt to them. All we ask is that those people who come here have some respect for the rules that have already been established. Is that too much to ask? Too much to ask someone seeking asylum to follow the rules of the country protecting you? If so I guess they should maybe start a new nation on their own otherwise they need to suck it up and accept what America is.

No that's what you mean. You don't need to be a classical liberal to believe in liberty and political freedom. And its hard to figure out what we are as Canadians, melting pot or mosaic. I don't know the answer. A bit of both I suppose.

Alright, so you are 100% cool with the idea of another culture coming to your nation, NOT conforming to the laws of your nation but expecting YOU to conform to their laws that they have brought with them?

Because THAT is what I'm irritated at, I love immigrants from anywhere and everywhere, this nation was built on the idea that it doesn't matter who your Dad is or who your family is, you can succeed here regardless of any previous class or caste system you may have been a part of....but people coming here wishing to say this is your caste, this is your class, our ideas are better and more worthwhile than the founders of this nation....I'm sorry America did not become what it is today by accepting any old idea that made its way to Ellis Island.

No I'm not ok with that. I'm also not ok with the labeling your country seems to put on everyone. If you are against gun culture you are a liberal or if you believe in health care for all you are a socialist. As if thats a bad thing. No grey in your world. No middle just black and white. When some Americans say exceptionalism they actually believe God himself handed you that antiquated constitution that has no application at all in the real world. The trouble with you card carrying radical righties is that you paint everyone not on side with the same brush. Thats what fascist states do not pluralistic ones.

And no I don't believe Muslims should have a prayer space at the work place or practice Sharia law. That does not make me left or right. It makes me Canadian. The trouble with America is that everything in life is left and right and the physician should heal thyself and quit forcing themselves onto sovereign countries and starting eternal wars. Your countries political philosophy is consumerism and capitalism. All the other shit is window dressing.

Gee, Lyle, you have a knack for turning any discussion into a long, protracted debate. But I have the patience of neither Kirk or Miles so I will just leave this issue with my last rebut and of course you're free to reply.
If one imposes anything on the others, then that's not a melting pot, at least not the melting pot envisioned by your forefathers which was supposed to be an equal amalgam of all. And so the melting pot you're talking of is not the melting pot your forefathers had in mind. But be fair to you, their principles were too idealistic, or utopian and like all idealism and utopia, they're probably not practical...

What are you debating? All I ask is for those coming to the United States (ESPECIALLY those fleeing a bloodthirsty dictator) is that they accept and respect the laws of the land rather than expecting Americans to bend to the desires of immigrants and refugees.....surely this is not too much to ask?

So if the laws were changed to ban all guns from your country you would accept and respect them?

Well the Second Amendment says that is a right the government CANNOT infringe upon....so if the government DID do that then it would become even more important that I own firearms.

Honestly, how difficult is that to understand?

That is a no then. You would not respect and accept the law of the land.
