I am a boxing fan; I like the interplay of styles - aggression against artistry, power against speed, the tactics and gameplans employed by the corners etc. I like to watch knockouts (but probably not as much as some people, as it is the sport that I love and not necessarily the outcome), but that - just like a serious injury - is a byproduct of the sport and not the actual object.

Unfortunately, I think three things are happening here:

1. Fighters have copied Ali's trash-talking and taken it to a whole new level. It's now so rare that fighters show respect and courtesy to each other in front of the cameras that it's actually picked up and commented on as being noble and good. This is really sad. Boxers are all in the same industry and will end up being viewed as negatively as politicians if they constantly badmouth and insult each other in the same way. They turn themselves into stereotypes rather than role models.
2. Boxing now finds itself competing for viewers with wrestling and MMA etc. Some of those fans watch boxing expecting the same theatrics and cartoon violence (and in wrestling, it's not even real)
3. Lots of boxing 'fans' have become inured to the violence and injuries/pain suffered by fighters because they have never stepped into the ring in a serious or competitive way, and have little comprehension of what it feels like to be smacked in the face by a trained fighter over a series of rounds.

Any person who steps into a ring - pro or amateur - deserves some respect for showing bravery, dedication and discipline - and a willingness to learn an art and play by some rules. It takes enormous commitment and talent to reach the level that some of the names being bandied about have reached.

So - and I'm sorry if I seem like holier than thou lecturer - there are lots of fighters who I am not a fan of, but I can't think of any of these athletes that I would like to see humiliated and/or seriously injured. That is not the point of boxing, or of being a fan of the sport ..... at least to me?

he does cling a bit to that higher end of boxers in events he's fighting at too (have u noticed )

he'llbe way down on the undercard but step out like he's the brother of the main fighter


i've seen him with his face in a mess a few good times after a fight
