Default Johanneson v Fehintola Sky Sports 1 RBR

    Evnin All,

The killersheep margarita's are in a pitcher on the table, the TV is tuned in to Sky Sports, and it's ready for another evening of British boxing in the Super Featherweight Division.

Carl Johanneson (24-2) - Massive puncher. Spent the first few years of his pro boxing career doing the rounds on the American circuit, learning the trade, and building that power. Loves a tear-up rather than a boxing match, and that will be the big thing for him, if he can draw Fehintola into a proper brawl.

Femi Fehintola (14-0) - Coming into the fight four years younger than the more experienced 28-year-old Leeds man, but without the experience of defeat. All but one of his fights have been by points win, rather than stoppage, so if he sticks to his boxing, doesn't get tied up in a brawl, then expect a long night.

An interesting aspect is that Fehintola is from Bradford, and Johanneson from Leeds, so Yorkshire fans get to take their rivalry to the boxing ring, and should be very interesting, in the neutral South Yorkshire venue at the Metrodome in Barnsley.
    Lets go....

Fehintola looking a bit nervous on the ring walk, hiding behind his hood. Johanneson wearhing his Leeds Utd headband, with a football chant as the first part of his ringwalk. Gabrielle for the rest of it, not a true hard-man ring walk tune.

Fehintola taller and longer reach, but Johanneson has a 65% KO record and Fehintola only with a 7% KO in all his wins, with one solitary KO.
Johanneson looking very calm and collected, having interviewed him I know he isn't much of a talker, but his fists will shout loud and proud IMO. Mid range KO is my prediction for this one.

    Round 1:

Long jabs and high guards for both early on. Punches on the inside by Johanneson. Good punches from angles by Johanneson. Strong jabs from Fehintola. Nice overhand right by Fehintola. Good flurry by J, 3 from 5 connect. Good left hook from J. Good first round for J, he's closing the distance well, and Fehintola not quite able to keep him at bay. F did look reasonable with jabs and overhands connecting. Johanneson takes the first.

    Round 2:

Good uppercut, hooks to the body from Johanneson. Reply with hook from Fehintola. F needs to get off the rope. Good flurry of jabs and straights from F. J working the body, getting caught on the way in though. F's jab showing good force, pushing J back. Nice uppercut by Fehintola. J continuing to work the body. Lovely right hook to the chin puts F in to the corner.

Good work from Fehintola, but J's throwing more hurtful punches. Tied round.

    Round 3:

Fehintola's catching J with jabs all the time, but then again, J doens't seem to feel it. Once J gets in, F's guard aint special. Boit of a wrestle, will suit J. Exchange on the ropes, J seeming to slow. Fehintola caught well, left hook, knocked to his knees. F looks not to be there, great right on the counter by F. Body shot by J puts Fehintola down again. Johanneson charging forward.

Fehintola survives, he doesn't look to be coping as well as he'd like with the power.

Johanneson takes this round with the knockdowns. F not looking too bad in the corner.

    Round 4:

High guard from F, throwing more now himself. J not affected. Good straight right from F, caught straight back. Good right hook rocks F. Nice right hook from F, Johanneson just walking through. Good body shots by J. Two hard straights hit J's guard. Johanneson looks better, Fehintola with another right knocks the head back but J doesn't seem fazed at all. F on the ropes 6 hard body and head by J. F comes back, jabs and straights for him.

Lots of heart from Fehintola, no doubt he wants it, but J is running it really. Another Johanneson round.

    Round 5:

I agree Emma, not long to go now IMO. Left hook from F. Massive missed swing sends him and F into the ropes. He feels the KO coming. Mory body shots from J on the ropes. Good flurry from F, most missed, but two connect with J. J is cocky now. Throwing wild swings to try and finish it. Nice flurry from J mixing body and head shots. F looking to tie it up. Good straight right by Johanneson. Fehintola down again. F survives another round.

Corner telling fehintola it's this round or they're pulling him out. Johanneson again.

    Round 6:

Good shots on the inside from Johanneson. Another right to the body puts Fehintola down again. F wnats to go on. Bundles of heart by this lad, not much coming back. Got to be this round. Loads of shots on the ropes. Body nad head, and Fehintola swinging back, but getting nothing.

REF STEPS IN! Good finish by Johanneson, when he sensed the victory, he was gunning for it.

I had Johanneson in 7 in the prediction contest so obviously it was gonna be Johanneson in 6

    Anyway, CC for the RBR.

Well, Fehintola had bundles of heart, and really wanted it. Johanneson looked good in this first defence. 1:25 of round 6 on the stoppage. Comfortable retention of the belt in the end, by the fourth round Fehintola was looking the more tired, and was looking over to the corner when he was on his knees, as if to ask "what can I do?" Johanneson dd look good, but he was still looking that he can get caught, and anyone stronger might cause him bother.

Carl says: "Fehintola is a good kid, and he did a lot of talking outside of there, but when he came in the ring it was a different story. You can't take what he's done away from him.
"I'm ready for anyone now, I feel great, Alex Arthur, anyone, bring it on."

Brendan Ingle: "He's going to finish up world champion in the next two or three years. He broke him down, he's the champion, and he's heading all the way."

Blowing smoke? Perhaps....but wait and see, I don't think his defence is good enough for world honours, but maybe an European, or European Union title might suit.
