Default Your thoughts of Azumah Nelson

Is he an alltime great or just a great fighter"?
I believe he is the master of the rematch, having won all the rematches he participated in.
Anyway, i loved his tko of Jeff Fenech after getting a gift decision in their first match.
Also his fight wit Salvador Sanchezs stands out, fighting a all time great with just 15 fights and doing really well

The most complete, best featherweight I have seen in my lifetime.

He had everything. Barry McGuigan (who I have a great deal of respect for) did the right thing by never getting near a ring with Nelson.

He would have destroyed Naseem Hamed.

Nelson was a fantastic fighter !!!!

I agree guys. One of the very best featherweights/ super-feathers. He beat some great fighters and was a champion for many, many years. Very lucky but to get a draw with Fenech in Vegas. Fenech deserved to be a four-time champ.

Great points X and I think it's safe to say that he wasn't know as
    'The Professor' just because.

I saw that first fight with Fenech and I thought The Professor won easily. It was a Tyson undercard. Can you say robbery? Don King....

He wasn't the greatest boxer, and he didn't have a lot of speed.

Azumah had not fully recovered from his bout of malaria when he fought Fenech the first match , takes a real warrior mentality to fight on with malaria. very nice fellow Nelson.

Azumah went to San Antonio's Marriott Hotel at the Riverwalk to celebrate his birthday years ago, as he considers San Antonio his second home. The Mexican fans really loved and respected Nelson's warrior mentality. Nelson’s wars with Leija were a great watch !

Nelson lost easy? I had Nelson winning the match. .. a fucking war it was , maybe an easy night for the ref, don't think he had to separate them the whole fight. .

I think Nelson was a brilliant fighter the Professor nickname fitted him perfectly, if he had fought more fights going into the Sanchez bout I think he woulda won. Was still pretty green at the time!

One of the most under rated fighters of all time, a true champion.
He took on the great Salvador Sanchez early in his career and may well
have won a rematch if it were not for the untimely death of Sanchez.
He won all of his rematches and at times against the odds when a lot of
scribes thought he was washed up. (Not many people thought he would beat Fenech
in the second fight) Definitely in the top 10 Featherweights and Super Featherweights of all time IMO.
