Default Eubank on an RJJ fight

"Yeah, Roy Jones was very, very good and that's a frightening fight. That guy had all the shots and some great moves - aggressive, let his hands go.

"If there was a token to victory for me, it might have been bodyshots. He liked to jump around a lot in the ring and my most underrated arsenal was bodypunching.

"If he wasn't prepared to breakthrough pain barriers then I'd have beaten him.

"If he was prepared to breakthrough pain barries then it may have come down to absorbance, and I had a PhD in absorbance. But then again, he could hit a head harder than the vast majority outside of Nigel Benn and he could avoid a glove better than the vast majority outside of Herol Graham.

"He could also punch faster in combination than anyone else, punch faster off his feet than anyone else and punch for longer than the vast majority. With my integrity and grit, it could only be a bruising encounter on both sides.

"But if he fought the right fight then - providing he was prepared to break through pain barriers - it would probably be a fight I just could not win.

"If he tried crowding me early doors though, it may have evolved into a cat and mouse game of strategy and that was where I was King.

"But yeah, that Jones definitely had the tools to beat me once we got into the swing of things."

    where's the original article?

besides this just sounds like an honest assessment of a fight between them and i'd like to know what fight was eubank speaking about...

Harry Mullan asked him in 1993 about Jones and he said "I fight to win, and so that's why I won't fight Jones. He can beat me."

If that was from eubanks mouth, he said Jones works constantly, he doesnt, he waits for you to move, rather like Eubank. Chris would eventualy have to channce his luck in this fight and there is no one that Jones faced that had Eubanks resiliance, not just his ability to take and ride shots but the fight in him, he was fiercly proud, if the Watson fight had only ended as a ko and not as it did, that would have made Eubank an even better fighter instead of the more passive version we saw later on.

How many fights could have ended early in Eubanks career ?

The first Collins fight, he was out ! Only for Chris to completely stand off, the first Thompson fight, I lost count how many times Chris could have nailed Carl to the canvas

I don't know if I agree with "easily", but I do believe Jones would win a clear cut and dominant decision. But I do think Eubank was a great fighter with a tremendous heart, and would pose problems for anyone.

He lost both fights against Close and looked shit, and yeah Jones would beat that Eubank fairly easily (esp the one at King's Hall who could barely move). But Roy Jones wasn't a natural pressure fighter

Eubank's effort against Malinga was very, very low - Malinga caused him no problems. Infact he caused Jones more problems, Jones had to resort to feints
