Victor Ortiz vs Lamont Peterson Set For December 11 - Boxing News

The doubleheader takes place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The only fighter to beat Peterson is WBO champion Timothy Bradley.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told the paper that Ortiz, if he wins, will get a title shot next. There will be two options presented to Ortiz, which includes the Khan-Maidana winner or the winner of January's unification between Bradley and Devon Alexander.

"He got his confidence back from the scene of the crime, and we believe he'll show in December that he's ready now to fight anyone at 140 pounds," Schaefer said.

Yes that is a shame if I am honest, that is twice now Kotelnik has been offered the Ortiz fight and not taken it.

I still think this fight is very interesting though. Anyone think Peterson can do it?

Yes, Peterson can most definitely pull this out.

I doubt it mate, I thought he showed his class against Baredley, he is deffo a gate keeper, not the worst fight you could make but with Kotelnik's performance against Alexander I wanted to see him again against a top fighter like Ortiz.

Lamont Peterson will beat Victor Ortiz. I'm not a gambler but if the odds represent Ortiz's never ending hype/Peterson's underratedness then I will place some decent money on Peterson.

Bradley is a top dog though and he still made a lot of those rounds with Bradley close and competitive even if he didn't win the fight. I definitely think Peterson will win and when he does, I think a fight between him and Alexander rwould be really compelling and another that I think Peterson would win. Peterson has one of the best gameplanners/trainers in America right now too in Barry Hunter.

Victor Ortiz-Lamont Peterson Far From Done, Says Hunter - Boxing News

Golden Boy Promotions head matchmaker Eric Gomez, along with Barry Hunter, the manager and trainer of Peterson, have the confirmed the fight is "definitely in talks" but there is nothing more than that. Ortiz returns on the December 11 undercard to Amir Khan's defense of the WBA junior welterweight title against Marcos Maidana at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.

The Los Angeles Times had reported on Monday that a deal was reached for the upcoming December date, but Hunter says there was nothing more than a five-minute telephone conversation with Gomez.

"Eric, from Golden Boy, called me yesterday and we spoke very briefly. Nothing was in concrete or set in stone. But Eric put it out there that it was an attactive fight. But it was no more than a five-minute conversation, if that," said Hunter. "But it's not etched in stone. We still have a lot of little things to talk about. Is is likely, yes and no."

Peterson is currently a free agent after his contract expired with Top Rank. He's been inactive since April, which concerns Hunter. The experienced trainer has a lot of different factors to discuss with Peterson before they reach a decision on whether or not to accept the fight.

"It has to make sense not only strategically, but also, financially. And then, there's another factor in this fight, because Lamont hasn't fought since April, and leading up to that fight," said Hunter.

"So it will have been eight months since he will have been in the ring by that time. I'm not one to go into a fight like that, but still, I can't stand that we have been out of the ring for so long. I have to sit down and discuss with him, and we have to come to a decision."

Actually very smart, he wouldn't want Peterson to get in there at the least chance of winning, but at the same time doesn't want him to be inactive, makes a lot of sense actually.
