Default John L Sullivan vs Vitali Klitschko

According to the leading philosophy of the OTNB community, the longer ago a fighter reigned the greater their boxing acumen was.

I already heard how the great Muhammad Ali could dance his way to a victory against Wladimir Klitschko.

I've already been schooled how Joe Louis would be a challenge for Lennox Lewis.

Recently I have found myself humbled that Jack Dempsey is a deadlock for Mike Tyson,

And Jack Johnson is the equivalent of Vitali Klitschko.

Therefore the next logical step in this saga would probably be John L Sullivan?

Surely he must have been the greatest boxer who ever lived? I mean given how far back that was, there mustn't be anybody who could hold a candle to this drunken booze bag today or in recent times?

I expect Sullivan to be able to massacre Riddick Bowe within a round or 2..

    Agreed

It'd be over very very quickly and I think Sullivan would deserve it as I've heard he was quite the cock sucker.

Mean spirited fat scum that enjoyed hurting people.

Yes he might have been a grandfather of the modern sport of boxing but by all accounts a racist and a bully.

Interestingly he was the first "athlete" in history to make a million bucks so I believe.

I am one of the people that believe the further back you go the worse things get.

Cars, technology, medicines... why would sports be any different?

Hell I barely rate anyone from back then.

Rocky Marciano wouldn't get out of the gym today.

Joe Louis? Please Lennox Lewis wouldn't let him carry the spit bucket.

Jack Johnson..... LOL give it a rest.

I (WE) respect them for what they did in their time against their time opponents but gtfo that they come close to competing today.

Take a middleweight back in 1900 and put him against one of the cruizerweights that are squeezed into a middleweights body today, it would be a brutal massacre.

No fighter pre-1960 is beating a Klitschko.

Fight Sullivan under the conditions he did, 40 rounds bare knuckle and see how long Vitali would last.

Don't judge everyone else by using your own retarded excuse for a logical argument Max. You may be so infantile and stupid that you can not understand it, but nobody said that boxing acumen was the sole preserve of one particular generation. You are seeking to over simplify the issue by insisting that modern super heavy weights would crush everyone else and that everyone else who gives credibility to great fighters of the past are wearing rose tinted glasses. Simple projection on your part because no billy goats will walk over your bridge.

The trouble with some of you clowns that clown the past on a daily basis is that the brush you use is much broader then the one you accuse others of painting with.

Its simply a CROCK of shit to make the suggestion or infer that because some largo 170 pound heavyweight previous bare knuckler/grappler could not compete with the hevs today that nobody else could compete in any other division from any other era. You indict an entire history of a sport based on how some heavyweights would do today. Such a premise is beyond stupidity and simply not worth the effort to even argue anymore. Its an energy taxer and quite possibly a perpetual one in motion because some of these people believe boxing started in 1990. Its myopia to the point of almost being a brain disorder. I mean FFS who on this forum has ever said the JL would beat anyone out of his era?

100 years from now Spurs Rockerfella who will be 7 ft 8 inches and weighing 320lb of lean muscle will fuck up Vitali, who will be considered a bum and midget punch bag.

    Nobody Inuit.

I thought I would follow the logical conclusion of what some of the guys around here are getting at, that the weaker and more rudimentary boxers get the further back in time the more formidable they were. So I took the liberty of taking the next logical step and concluded that JLS must have been the greatest of all time.

I live in Australia remember, we have Aussie rules footy over here right. Do you suppose we watch the latest matches on telly and support the current sides? Of course. We pay respects to teams and players past to be sure but we don't routinely watch 1950's footy matches and make outrageous claims like that one could beat the current Essendon footy team do we!

One of those teams eats oranges at half time and has a 6 pack and the other has a beer gut and smokes a fucking cigarette at half time.

I hope you get the connection and the point was conveyed with this joke thread.

JLS would pulverize Klit with feints and fists uncovered. One bone-jarring shot on Klit and the Ukie would fold. Older may have been less skilled but they were WAY tougher.
