    Good Post. I watched BoxingSoleo (was that the name?) many times never understanding what the announcers said. A couple of times, I called my spanish speaking hermano over to translate the announcers.

    Challenger = Desafiador

    This one can also be: contrincante, retador.
    Height = Altura

    Estatura.
    KO = Via rapida, knock out

    Killersheep,
    Your Spanish is rusty? Yeah right! You did a good job with those translations.

    Thanks, that's helpful. My Spanish is OK for a gringo and I can follow along somewhat, but I didn't know a few of the those words. "Peso Gallo" cracks me up. Is Bantam an old English word for "rooster/cock"? I think we should start calling bantamweights "cockweights."

    And I suppose it would be inappropriate to refer to strawweights as "pajeros"

    How would a commentator say "Holy Shit!! He just took a big fucking bite out of his ear!!" in Spanish?

    And what about the little bumfuck move Calzaghe pulled on Hopkins?

    Just in case these things happen again during a Spanish broadcast.

    This is quite a nice, informative thread.

    In the Filipino language, meshed are a lot of Spanish and Latin words, undetected, without some form of structured instruction!

    Nice to enable us to pick-up on it a bit easier, thanks, TS!
