Yo-Sam Choi (32-5, 19 KOs), former WBC mini-flyweight champion, sunk into a coma after fighting Heri Amol (22-8-3, 7 KOs) today in South Korea. He was dropped with five seconds left in the twelfth round and barely beat the count to win the fight, but then collapsed while still in the ring. UPDATE 12-27-07

Former WBC light flyweight champion Yo-Sam Choi remains in a coma and in critical condition after undergoing an emergency two-hour brain operation on Tuesday night in Seoul, South Korea. Choi collapsed in the ring following a points win over Heri Amol. Dr. Park Hyeong-ki told the Korea Times "Right now we are relying on drugs to relieve intra-cranial pressure and stop the bleeding, but we can't say he is in any better condition than he was yesterday. It will take at least a week to tell whether he will ever regain consciousness."

Thats where I read it, on fightnews but im not sure about posting articles so I just just paraphrased it lol. Choi has had some good wins in his career though I cant say ive seen much of him. It is sad when these things happen to any fighter and his family, hope he pulls through.

I think it is because there are a lot of mismatches in parts of Asia. This fight wasnt a mismatch but i think its usally the reson. Or maybe they dont test the guys enough before they fight.
