    Default Athletes v Boxers

To be a top boxer you need both good boxing skills and very good conditioning. However there are some top fighters who are more athletes than boxers such as (Sergio Martinez) and others that are more boxers than athletes (James Toney).

Name your favourites and where they have fought one another who normally wins?
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.

Roy Jones Jr was an athlete then a boxer, you already mentioned James Toney as boxer first and an athlete second.
RJJ beat Toney in the 90s, when they were both pretty much prime.

In the 1990s, NFL football player Mark Gastineau took up Boxing and was being featured on Tuesday Night Fights and so on just because he was already famous.

Carefully selected low-level opponents, but the dude still got bopped all over the ring by Tim Doc Anderson who was just a pudgy journeyman boxer who was often picked as an opponent by old fighters on the comeback trail looking for a win like Foreman, Coetzer, Holmes.

Gastineau was a great athlete, but he didn't have any of the instincts of a fighter.
Tim Doc Anderson wasn't even a good fighter, but he was still a fighter though.

Doc Anderson had his own story involving murder and incarceration later.

In MMA, Brock Lesnar stands out.
Terrific athlete. Not a fighter though.

How would classify Calzaghe, boxer or athlete first?

Arguably, Gastineau was the worse boxer in history.

Earnie Shavers was a football player with power and so was Ken Norton I believe. Both men were defeated by boxers, Larry Holmes, Muhammad Ali and slugger George Foreman got his two cents in with Norton.

How would you classify Rigondeaux, athlete first, boxer first or 50-50.
How about Donaire, athlete or boxer first or 50-50.

    Rigo gets the win.

    Gatti, boxer first.
Ward, boxer first but maybe a little more athletic than Gatti.

    Ward wins.

It's funny, two boxers make never to be forgotten wars.

Andre Dirrell and Joshua Clottey were athletes first.
Lots of physical gifts, but not the psychological makeup/toughness of fighters.

Froch is a fighter first, an athlete 2nd.
Froch kicked Dirrell's @$$, split decision my rosy red rectum.
    Dude was malingering in there.
