Default Pascal wins..opponent is sent to hospital

    Pascal stops Arias!
    www.fightnews.com

By Dave Spencer -- Fightnews Canada at ringside
In a bout that ended on a somber note, Jean Pascal (14-0 12KO) scored a 6th round technical knockout victory over Lucas Green Arias (11-2 9KO) of Costa Rica as boxing returned to the Casino de Montreal Saturday. Pascal who was the faster of the two fighters on the day and was connecting with regularity throughout; finally catching up with Arias as the ten-second warning sounded, unleashing a barrage that finished with a left hand that put the fighter down. Arias would get up and stumble to his corner as the bell sounded and not return, his corner having seen enough. He would remain seated as the celebrations in the ring continued and belts were presented. Five minutes later with a corner-man pouring a bottle of water over his head, the stool under Arias could no longer support the fighter who lost consciousness. Oxygen was administered and a stretcher brought as Arias lay on the canvas for at least another five minutes. No word yet on the fighter’s condition but he was immediately brought to hospital and Fightnews will do its best to keep you informed of his condition.

Other action saw Sebastien Demers score 2 knockdowns early on his way to a convincing 100-88 (3x) over Stephane Desormiers and retaining his Canadian junior middleweight belt. Other winners included Patrice L’Heureux, Olivier Lontchi, Sebastien Hamel, Phil LoGreco and Adonis Stevenson.

Pascal got some skill. Is he the next big thing?

    Arias Update!
    By Dave Spencer, Fightnews Canada

Lucas Green Arias who lost via a 6th round TKO to undefeated super-middleweight Jean Pascal Saturday at the Casino de Montreal and was carried from the ring on a stretcher remains in hospital in stable condition and will stay at least overnight according to promoter for the event Yvon Michel. Arias who went down just before the round ended was able to beat the count and show to referee Gerry Bolen that he was good to continue as the bell sounded to end the round. His condition according to Michel is a sub-dural hematoma and presently his life is not thought to be in danger, although the next 24 hours are critical. Arias is currently on medication and has had a drain to relieve the fluids built up between brain and the skull, referred to as the dura. In hyper-acute forms of sub-durals where there is a rapid build up of fluid almost immediately, patients often suffer from breathing failure and respiratory problems. Oxygen was administered by ambulance technicians on scene after Arias collapsed from his ring stool, at least seven minutes after the fight was over. Pascal had been declared the winner and awarded the WBC Latino belt and had already exited the ring to do interviews when the Arias who was fighting outside his native Costa Rica for just the second time went down.

Hope the guy allright, seems like he probably will be

Paschal's got talent, lot of good prospects, up and comers at 168: Pascal, Bute, Green, Andrade

    168's pretty good overall.
