I reckon this could've been a classic matchup - how do you see it??

great match up. salvador was very tough fighter, he was a bully too lol. arguello was a long, rangy boxer who was also tough. i believe that arguello had just as much power as salvador and more speed. he really used his height. however, salvador was relentless and arguello would lose focus and break on occassions. with that said, i see arguello winning this, by keep his range and out boxing salvador.
I reckon your right!!
this is a tough one, cuz to me Arguello is probably the 2nd to 'Finito' Lopez in defining perfection. I'll say it again in my eyes watching Arguello was like watching a masterful painter at work.
'Chava' on the other hand we saw how great he could have been, if hes considered great with such a short career of 'World Title' victories god knows whayt could have been of him would he have not died at such a young age.
I'm gonna go with my 1st instinct and say Arguello late stoppage.
cc....Nice thread
Arguello.
Salvador has a great resume but his openings were never truly taken advantage of by someone the class of Arguello, Sanchez beat some great fighters but styles make fights and Arguello;s style may be the one that would give Sanchez problems.
I think Arguello would figure out Sanchez's style aftert he first 5 rounds, and then turn it up and sweep the next rounds before stopping Sanchez in the 14th.
Providing he is on top of his game, I see Arguello blasting Sanchez out early.
We know for sure Arguello was superb, we guess Sanchez was... sadly.
Heeeeey,my knowledge is growing,I can comment here! I think Arguello wins but I have question, how old was Sanchez when he died? I mean was he at his peak boxing wise?
thats the point, we'll never knowOriginally Posted by The Game
If I'm not mistaken he died short of his 22nd B-day making him 21 and some months with a record of 44-1-1 thats pretty amazing.Originally Posted by The Game
Excellent match up, for me I'll say ARGUELLO, BUT REMEMBER THIS, SANCHEZ WAS THE ONLY MAN TO STOP AZHUMA NELSON, and that has to count for something, but still I think Arguello by late rd T.K.O.
Since I asked the initail question, I will answer imo it would be a draw
Both in or around the top 10 counter punches of all time - just couldn't split them!

Arguello got stopped a couple of times early in his career, including his first title fight I think. Maybe Sanchez might have been able to outbox him, wear him down and stop him like Pryor. Sanchez defense and chin and counterpunching looked pretty good based on the Gomez fight.
