True, but a grown man would have time to react the way the kids just stood there like that. Back when I took Karate, our teacher taught us to NEVER kick above the stomach. A kick to the head can be devastating, but when you kick that high, if your opponent catches your foot, you're pretty much GOING to get hurt. "TKD fancy stuff".

But what grown man is gunna stand there and let him do his twirly then kick, Dont get me wrong im not a Martial Arts basher, Actually i look down on Judo, i remeber as a kid my mate terry did Judo and i did Karate and i always whooped his a*** and all he did was throw me ( only got to the orange belt before i got fed up of learning them stupid monotomous moves then having to perform in a crowd of 200-300 odd people where u dont get seen just for a belt! pfft! )

And also, you never saw a "Judo" guy win any MMA championship??

I'll stick with my familly moto of " Kickings for pussies and donkeys "
OH FFS . I was pointing out that the kick itself would have KOed a grown man. I am not for a minute saying that it would work in a self defence situation. i was complimenting the power of the kick not talking about what context the deployment of it would work in.
I am a Judo Dan grade and that crap you talk about karate owning judo is a bunch of a***. Ive sparred with wing chun red sashes and karate dan grades. The Karate Dan grade tapped about 3 times in 3 mins its was a pissing joke. The Wing Chun fella caught me with a couple pof punches as i came in for a clinch but i knew they would cause 0 damage since wing chun do arm punches, would not have done this with a boxer. They glanced off the top of my head i then took him down and choked him so easily. Ive also do another 'sort' of martial art called urban combatives, lots of nasty impoact work for power and striking. Ive held the pads for karate guys and they harness IMO no power.

IMO Judo OWNS everything else as a standalone martial art style versus style (I'm biased but its true ) its widely regarded as the best form of self defence by REAL people who know violence ie Bouncers etc.

Also you mention all your mate did was throw you? Have you ever been thrown onto a hard surface by a competent Judoka? I thought not. I'm betting your mate was a low grade. Not wishing to brag but if someone of any decent level threw you onto a hard surface you would not be getting up. Add to the fact you were kids. Things get a bit different and nastier in the seniors mate.

but in a street fight, that stuff aint happening, try to set up any kick or special move and your a*** will be swarmed on so quick you'd be to busy trying to back up and get your space.

martial arts WONT work in a street fight, unless your a F****** Ninja.

Just to add. Fella I new had started karate same time as I started JKD, they sparred from day one, our teacher had a policy to become profient with offence/defence before sparring. We sat round chatting and arranged a sparring session, a compare & contrast of styles if you like.

We set ground rules so it's not full contact, its sparring.
First of he get's in his gi & bare foot, I'm in regular clothes & trainers. Ding ding, he gets his foot stomped on so we have to stop for him to put his trainers back on. He keeps trying all these fancy head kicks, spinning jumping crap you can see coming for miles so back off or push forward and he's off balance. I just keep kicking his shins and knees. In the end he calls it quits and his legs are fucked.

If you train for a sport fine, realise it's a sport if you train for self defense you need to keep some realism keep it simple and drill and drill and drill till you don't need to think you just act.

My god woman you're at it again. Now you are going on about simple gross motor techniques that aren't complicated because no doubt you know that in a situation adrenaline can cause you to forget complicated techniques.

You are also on about muscle memory. Drilling it so you don't think you just act. Meaning muscle memory makes you act this way when confronted in a real situation because you've drillied it so many times.

    I'm in love
