Problem was not Douglas it was Tyson....I am good friends with his origional Matt Baranski....Matt told me about the way Tyson was living...Matt was in Japan with Mike and ended up leaving due to an arguement with Tyson...which is how the Stooges ended up in his corner....Tyson is mentally weak....His physical skill are great but the mind is what caused his downfall....Holyfield would have still won

yea maybe but he looked damn impressive in first ruddock fight and holyfield wernt looking that impressive being out on his feet and down against bert cooper wobbled few times against foreman i used to think holyfield win this but holyfield did get caught aweful lot and them body shots from tyson what he landed on ruddock were devasting i dont know if holyfield would survive but you never know with warrior like holyfield he manages to always pull it outOriginally Posted by DaxxKahn
He would have lost....what if Mike Tyson flew a rocket ship to the moon
Pre jail, post Douglas Tyson beats Holyfield IMO. Yes, he was losing skills and becoming more of a head hunter, but he could still throw hard and in combination. Mentally he wasnt so diminished as the performances against Ruddock show. Tyson would have won a hard fought decision. Tyson was working his way back to the top prior to jail.
Its a shame that we never really saw what Tyson could do with his back to the wall in those years lost to jail. Its all conjecture, hypothesis and guess work....
Tyson never had it in him to beat Evander
i disagree, post douglas-pre prison tyson was not primed and some of his great skills had diminished but he was hungry and could go 12 hard rounds...I see tyson winning but if holyfield managed to impress the judges he might come up with a SD but no way would holyfield knock that version of tyson out...IMOOriginally Posted by Lyle

He wouldn't have to KO Mike....Mike would have just quit, same as he did when he got the chance to fight Holyfield
Holyfield would've beaten Mike up, just like he did in '96 and '97. People seem to forget that if they fought in '91 or '92, Holyfield would've benefitted too, because he was old and past his prime when they fought in '96, just like Tyson was.
I know Tyson fans love their guy and I can respect that, but Holyfield was, is, and always will be a superior fighter. And Tyson knows it.
i dont want to take anything away from evander on his great accomplishment with the win over tyson but tyson seriously underestimated and under trained for that fight i mean why train hard for an old veteran with a heart condition?he thought it would be easy nights work.......the tyson pre-prison was fit to go the distance with holy IMOOriginally Posted by Lyle

Hey, Evander did it to him twice and he'd do it to him again if Mike had a time machine!
Evander win this fight big in 91 IMO .. in 91 Evander was at his prime.. He was just a fantastic all around athlete. .. Mike had slipped at this point , even if Tyson got passed Douglas he was slipping and his world was still crumbling. Mike’s work ethic and discipline had already gone to the birds .
Now Mike Tyson in 86 would have been a different story.. Prime for Prime. I’d lean toward Tyson.. Tyson’s prime window was very very short he peaked out very early. Hell Mike was a grown man at the age of 13 and 200 lbs of muscle
what do you mean he did it to him twice? as i recall tyson was beating holyfeild across the ring in the 3rd rd-2nd fightOriginally Posted by Lyle

3rd round.....and Mike lost the fight because apparently only Mike can foul in a fight.
Mike complained of headbutts but Evander never complained of elbows on the throat or anything like that.
You have to WIN the fight to .....WIN the fight....get what I'm saying.
Just like you said Lewis beat Vitali....Evander beat Tyson
Holyfield wins, no question in my mind, and I was a big Tyson fan back then. His world was crumbling at that time and if he would have got past Douglas and fought Holyfield, Tyson would have lost in similar fashion, late (T)KO. Tyson didnt have the right people around him, either his trainers werent any good or he just wasnt listening, either way Tyson wasnt doing what needed to be done in the gym. And as someone else pointed out at the time Holyfield was a heck of a fighter.
