Ricardo "Mochuelo" Torres his WBO junior welterweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Arturo Morua on Saturday night at the Coliseo de la Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia. Torres was in command all the way and tried hard to get the knockout, but Morua barely managed to make it to the final bell. It was Torres' first defense. He must now reportedly face mandatory challenger Kendall Holt in 90 days.
WBO minimumweight champion Ivan Calderon retained his world title for the 12th time by split decision against Ronald Barrera. Calderon had the advantage early, but Barrera came on as the bout progressed. Scores were 115-113, 115-113 for Calderon, 115-113 for Barrera. Calderon is rumored to be moving up in weight for his next fight in August.
Unbeaten hot prospect Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez scored a seventh-round TKO over experiencedColombian Jorge Otero to capture the WBO Latino superbantamweight title. Former WBO contender Otero was a strong opponent for the 23-year-old Olympian Lopez, who improved to 16-0 with 14 KOs.
