HBO Sports reported today that 2.15 million pay-per-view buys and $120 million in pay-per-view revenue was generated from last Saturday’s mega fight showdown featuring Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. In a fight that set the all-time pay-per-view record by eclipsing the previous mark by a sizable margin of 160,000 buys as well as establishing a new mark for revenue from a pay-per-view telecast, Mayweather scored a split decision victory and captured De La Hoya’s junior middleweight title. The showdown produced 1,225,000 buys from cable systems and 925,000 buys from satellite homes throughout the 50 states.

ESPN just reported that Oscar will pocket around 45 MILLION DOLLARS and Floyd will take home a little more than 20 Million. Good lord, I'm glad Floyd won but Oscar is taking his loss and cashing it at Washington Mutual. Yikes, 50 Million dollars for one fight?!?! Oscar is a fucking genius. Floyd doubled his original check but damn, Oscar really is caked up.

He was guaranteed 23.3 Million for the fight and then 70% of the PPV and international revenue along with his cut from GBP. Floyd was guaranteed 10 Million and 30% of the PPV and international revenue. The PPV revenue was around 120 Million total but a lot of that goes to paying for crap (promoting the fight, blah blah blah). But they obviously got a big cut of the PPV revenue. BTW, Floyd's the only fighter to ever get an actual percentage of not only PPV but international revenue too. Oscar could buy a country.

Oscar may have gotten 70% of the portion of PPV sales which ended up in the two fighters pockets... I'm not an expert on this or anything but I would really, really doubt any boxer ever sees anything near 70% of the total PPV sales.. Even if he promoted it there's everyone else at Golden boy, Mayweather's promotion/camp, and HBO to account for, they all got a big cut obviously.. Especially HBO, you would think.

apparently the 2.15 million number is supposed to increase once a full tally is done I remember after the mayorga the premature number announced was 825,000 buys but once the full tally was done it was reported 935,000 plus the gate money which was around 20 million was huge as well. Now I am thinking maybe fighting mayweather wasn't such a bad idea Oscar is looking to take home 50 million for a fight that is like a popular fighter's entire career gross

Christ all bloody mighty thats astronomical figures, I can't believe how well it did, congratulations to GBP and HBO, they're keeping the money into the most decadent sport on the planet, but they are swallowing a ridiculous amount of that money. Boxing is still the Rolls Royce of all sports. That money that we, the fans pay, we all shell out a lot of money, and we keep this sport alive, so now, what boxing, the promoters and the TV people really needs to do is give it back to us fans, because without US the sport dies. Where the fuck is our pay off? A ticket for a football, soccer, baseball, basketball theatre etc. costs a 1/3 of a fucking damn boxing ticket, so where's our pay off? Where's the value? I went to see UFC, I paid £120 ($240) and for that I met all the fighters, I attended the weigh in and I even had a drink with the boss, thats right Dana White bought be a fucking pint of Fosters, that is what boxing is competing with, every fight on the card I didn't have a clue who was gonna win and they were all very exciting. I went to see Calzaghe v Lacy and I paid £318 ($630) for my ticket and I felt like I had been dry bummed, 2 good fights on the whole card and nothing but a fuck you the day before.
