Do you think Sam Peter hits harder than Dempsey, louis, marciano, foreman liston

Sam Peter's punches are hard but they don't do as much physical or cosmetic damage to fighters as the older guys punches did

Yeah but you fail to mention the different rules, and the fact that fights were allowed to go on MUCH longer back in the old days.

Can you imagine the damage Sam Peter could do if he was allowed to stand over his opponent while he was getting up, like Dempsey was able to do against Williard?

I think Louis doesn't have the hardest punch like he was labelled nor does Dempsey they simply too small to punch that hard. I know its about technique, but there have been a lot bigger guys with "the punch" like Tyson and Tua for example. Foreman IMO hit very hard, but he wasn't a one punch kind of guy, and he was still 6'4 220 which is pretty skinny compared to the 6'5 240 Lennox who is 20 pounds heavier, but one inch taller. Marciano was like Pacquaio is now... a guy who wears you down more than one hit knocks you out.

No one ever has or ever will hit as hard as marciano going down the line then you have foreman (raw power) and tyson (not as strong as foreman but has speed and nasty combos) Louis (not as hard as tyson but same concept) then you have dempsey.

i've come to the conclusion that peters shots are heavier because of his weight. if louis or liston were that weight then they would have punched alot harder!

still even a 200 pound louis punch would have what i would call more of electric shock in his punch than peter. sams punches are jus heavier.

I agree that Sam Peter is a big puncher but he's not in the same power league as George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, Earnie Shavers etc.

Peter is an awesome puncher bigger than Dempsey and Marciano but Foreman i don't think so but only time will tell

It really shows a lot when Sam Peter's biggest KO came against one of the heavyweights with one the WEAKEST chins ever in the history of the sport.


Louis had snap on his punches....Peter hits someone and it's a thud.....it's like comparing the power of Fernando Vargas vs the power of Shane Mosley or Tito Trinidad.

Dempsey and Tyson are very similar in their style of punching and the weight difference was too much I mean 30 pounds

Foreman had both kinds of power, just the raw thudding power and then the very crisp punching power as well and I think it's very similar to how Marciano threw punches....Rocky could have snap on his punches or just rare back and let loose with wild haymakers.



As far as how hard Sam Peter hits....maybe it's physically harder than these old guys but he's not as effective with his power, meaning he rarely KO's people the way they did, and he hasn't KO'd anyone that's surprising.....Foreman taking Frazier out in 2 rounds was SURPRISING.....Dempsey blasting Jess Willard out was SURPRISING......Rocky KOing Charles and Walcott was SURPRISING.....Louis was just plain scary in the ring, he whipped Max Baer EASILY amongst others

Sam Peter doesn't hit THAT hard....sure he's a KO puncher but he is wide and slaps with his punches whereas Louis snapped his punches, Dempsey, Foreman, and Marciano really used their legs when they threw their punches.


I would say Sam Peter is one of the best power punchers today but as far as ALL-TIME he's not even close.

Guys like Lewis, Tyson, Frazier, Wladimir, Vitali, Foreman, Shavers, Rocky, Dempsey, and others are ahead of Sam.

wladdy is on your list but he couldn't put Peter down and Peter put him down 3 times. Hhmmm, interesting.

Sam's chin is pretty good but that has nothing to do with his or Wlad's power....and nor does the fact Sam hit Wlad behind the head......a very HUGE sign that Sammy doesn't hit as effectively as other fighters.

I agree. I'm beginning to think there's certain people on this board that simply cannot grasp the concept of reality. Earlier in this thread, there are people who actually say, 'well if Marciano or Dempsey weighed 245, they'd hit harder than Sam Peter.' This is about the dumbest and furthest thing from the truth that can be said. Do you honestly believe a fighter adding close to SIXTY POUNDS will not at all affect the way he fights Different people are different sizes. Just because Dempsey and Marciano are shorter, doesn't mean that no one their height can be naturally heavier. Tyson is the same height as both and NATURALLY 30 pounds bigger than both. It's called genetics. Different people have different genetics. Rocky and Jack simply are not big enough to compete with most remotely skilled heavyweights in history. It's not to detract from their accomplishments, because they fought who was put in front of them (with the exception of Dempsey refusing to fight any Black fighter of course ). The point is, when you say Rocky Marciano would only need to get up to 245 to be the hardest hitter of all time, you sound about as dumb as someone saying that if Tommy Hearns moved up to heavyweight, his right hand power would carry up to that weight with him. It's just dumb
