Default Could Paul Williams be the man to beat Floyd?

Normally I don't get carried away with one performance but honestly Williams was so impressive tonight.

He doesn't have power but against Floyd that's not really an issue as I think the sheer size and workrate of Williams would be Floyd's problem.

How the hell would Floyd get in close enough Williams to do damage?

It would be like trying to fly a plane through a windmill's blades Williams just doesn't stop throwing.

I'd love to see this fight, a million times more than Hatton as I think Williams just presents such an interesting and unique puzzle for Floyd to solve.

Against Hatton and Cotto you can see Floyd using his superior boxing skills and keeping away, coming in to score with single power shots against his slower opponents.

Mosely is similar to Floyd in so many ways but Floyd is probably just that little bit faster at this stage in his career.

But Williams as I said already is like no other fighter Floyd has faced.

I would love to know how this fight would pan out and how Floyd would solve the Williams puzzle.

    What do you guys think?

Williams-Mayweather would be a boring one.

Williams throws over a 100 punches a round, how would this be boring?

Thank you. Williams is good but why is it when someone comes off a win, everyone immediately thinks they can beat the best who's in their division? DLH beats Mayorga and everyone on this board is saying he'll slay everyone, Mosley beats Vargas and all the sudden he's the second coming of Tommy Hearns. And now Williams beats Antonio Margarito 8 rounds to 4 so he's gonna beat Floyd Mayweather I don't think so.

Excellent poll Bilbo. Do I get multi choices? Both are great.

What are you talking about Floyd ducked Margarito he definitely don't want a piece of the Punisher!

Williams wins, too tall, too high a workrate, Floyd wouldn't be able to get in close and engage.

Floyd wont come back anytime soon. Too many warriors at least in this division.

Let's not forget, PBF likes fighting old men and shot fighters like Gatti.

Too much risk here for PBF to even dare think of venturing into.

They won't be able to hurt each other.

I think whoever Williamns fights will have a tough one just because of his output. Not much power on those but very busy. And on top of that he's so damn tall. I don't think he would beat Floyd, but hell I thought Tony would win tonight too

Floyd would embarrass Williams worse than he did Corrales.

Mayweather has beaten good fighters that all they do is throw punches. Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez. Now while Williams is better than those 2 he still doesn't have the speed to keep up with Mayweather. And he doesn't have the one punch knock out power to knock him out if he does catch him.

Are you kidding? Footwork, counter punching? Nobody has just walked through what Mayweather has thrown, not Dela Hoya not Baldomir not Castillo and they all have or had great chins. Mayweather hits hard enough to keep Williams honest. However while Mayweather is great against taller fighters he definitely has troubles against southpaws. Personally I've always felt Paul Williams gives him one of his more difficult challenges because Paul doesn't tire, he's so tall, he's a great inside fighter, and he is an accurate puncher. However I feel that Mayweather would make him miss almost every single punch. So this fight would definitely depend on the judges, but Mayweather should win because he will land more, and better punches just like against ODLH.

Fair point, I'm not saying Williams is the best fighter in the world I'm just putting the question out there as to how stylistically would Floyd solve the Williams puzzle.

In recent fights Floyd has won by staying on the outside and relying on his superior speed to pick of his opponents with single shot combinations.

How does he possibly stay on the outside of a man who's practically got a whole extra arm's length in wingspan to him?

Oscar WAS able to back up Floyd early and apply pressure but he tired late on and Floyd took over. We just saw against Margarito that Williams doesn't gas and unlike Oscar who got punch shy in the final rounds Williams was just a whirlwind from start to finish.

If you going to even make a post saying Williams loses end of, at least tell us how what strategy you think Floyd will adopt and HOW he will win.

This isn't just a yes or no poll I want reasons and opinions as to HOW this fight would pan out

Oh yeah? Just like Margarito was sooo good? I admit I thought Margarito was going to win tonight, but I had only seen Williams against a completely overmatched Pacau or whatever his name. Margarito was your saviour, and he just got destroyed. So stop being queer.

Can't use the too tall sattement, Williams doesn't use his height.

But he won't be the one to unseat Floyd.

But I don't want Floyd to get the shot right now. Clottey deserves a shot at either him or Cintron
