Default Bad Ref choice for Cotto/Gomez?

The Ref's for tomorrow nights fights came out in Dan Rafael's chat today, and damn, I was hoping to get Steve Smoger to ref the Cotto/Gomez fight, he is the best out there. This ref doesn't sound like good news.

Dave, NJ: According to the Press of Atlantic City, Randy Neumann is the ref for Cotto-Gomez, and Earl Brown in the ref for Margarito-Cintron.

Dan Rafael: (2:04 PM ET ) If that is the case, Neumann will undoubtedly stop the fight too late.

Dan Rafael: (2:05 PM ET ) Neumann was the ref for Gomez -Gatti and almost let Gatti get killed. He was also the ref who was absolutely horrific in Germany when Abraham faced Miranda.

Cool i like a ref who will let the fight go on.

It's unfair to say he stopped the Gatti fight too late. It was stopped at the right time its just that Larry Hazard had to jump into the ring and called it off not allowing Newman the chance.

He most likely would have stopped it anyway.

Beyond that, why is it that ref's get their entire careers judged on the back of a single fight?

Cortez is now labelled as someone who won't allow in fighting and is seen as a problem referee becuase of one fight, now this Newman guy people think won't stop a fight when a fighter is getting a beating because of the Gatti fight

Agreed on that last point. I love the amount of praise Mickey Vann gets from the Brits but Cortez gets trashed? Makes me think of JCC-Whitaker when it was Cortez who did a great job in a huge fight and Vann blew it on the scorecards.

Neumann isn't to bad of a ref, I watched Peter - Klitschko last night and thought he did a good job in that one.

Neumann Not so bad but can be a little abrasive. Larry Hazzard Will not be ringside ready to pounce into the ring and stop the fight himself ,maybe Neumann will keep it fully proper.Ive seen in more than a few fights that those two just seemed to Butt heads.

I like Smoger but he does those little "dance" moves lol.

Whoops....Not Neumann that was spotty with Hazzard.... I actually think It was Ed o'Neil ??

    Same here.

This is good news . A fight should go on until a fighter cant or doesnt want to continue. Too many fights are stopped prematurley . A good ref gives a guy a chance and if he sees he has no hope then he will stop it.

Yea, but Neuman will let the fight continue even when a doctor and the fighter himself wants to quit. He is a piece of shit.

Gomez wasn't getting killed in there, and Cotto wasn't helping by "carrying him" the ref was looking for a reason to stop it, look how he called the doctors in, for what exactly? a cut? looking concust? there was no reason for the doc's to be in there but he wanted an excuse.

also these are big big fights and people pay a lot of money for them, these guys know what they are getting into, they should be ready to take a good few slaps and earn their money, an no one wants to get pulle dout after 2 or 3 rounds 'coz they become damaged goods.

Lets be honest, anyone think isreal or rafa took less punishment than gomez? just they were both going so they let it play on.
