Default Who is Carl Froch fighting?

The fight is in less than a week and there has been no news at all, its been taken off boxrec.com and its really annoying . Has anybody heard who its against? Ive heard it might be Berrio, but nothing has been said since...

its not really his fault though is it? Inkin has pulled out twice now for reasons which are beyond me... He was ranked in the top 10 and Carl needed this fight to push him for the WBC belt shot and fight the better fighters this year.

yup afraid so. Froch wouldnt be so silly as to take on a half decent opponent he will probably have not much inside knowledge of.

they`ll probably bring over an established european fighter thats been around the block, has a half decent record and wont require too much in terms of the fight purse!!

well he was ranked above Inkin anyway and because hes pulled out twice I think the WBC put him at number one by default. Although he still needs to prove himself, its not his fault if Inkin pulls out. He wanted to fight him and he will fight him. But Carl cant be waiting around because hes getting older and he needs to be fighting for the belt by the end of the year at least. I really did think Inkin did have a good chance in the fight because I rate him as a fighter. But pulling out twice isnt the best way to get yourself the number one spot.

But still does anybody have any infomation at all?

Would be interesting to see Kessler vs Froch fight for the WBC title! Interesting fight I reckon!

He'll need to win this fight impressively then Williams has lost usually by KO whenever he steps up in class.

If he can get him out of there better than Lacy did it should be ok.

I remember the Green fight but missed Andre Ward taking him apart.

Froch will KO him inside 6 or 7 I'd imagine and if it goes any longer he'll look bad.

Rubin Williams has thrown like 13 punches in his last three fights. Pointless, but I guess he has to fight.

Yeah its Rubin, Hennessy sent out this PR today...

    New opponent for Froch
WBC super-middleweight mandatory challenger Carl Froch will box Rubin Williams in an international 12 round contest as the co-feature on a Hennessy Sports in association with GoldenPalace.com show at the Trent FM Arena Nottingham on Saturday, 10th May live on ITV1 and on a delayed ShoBox special in the US.
Froch will have his first fight since being made the official WBC mandatory challenger on the same show as WBC light-welterweight champion Junior Witter's (Bradford, England) third world title defence against his mandatory challenger Timothy Bradley (Palm Springs, USA).

As Froch waits for his right to fight for the world title, the Forest season ticket holder is thrilled that his football team has repeated his success and moved up a level by winning automatic promotion to the Coco-Cola Championship.

Froch said: "I'm on the brink of realising my dreams and I hope Forest are too. We missed out last season in the playoffs but I am over the moon that Forest have secured automatic promotion and I have secured my WBC mandatory status.”

"It's been frustrating watching us in this division, we deserve to be higher. I try and get to Forest as much as I can but when I'm training for fights down in London I can't really go.”

Williams,32 (Michigan, United States) is looking to end the unbeaten record of Froch (Nottingham, England) and replaces Denis Inkin (Russia) who pulled out of a scheduled WBC final eliminator against Froch for a second time a week ago.

Promoter Mick Hennessy sees Williams as a tough assignment for Carl. He said: “Williams has stepped up to the plate so fair play to him. Others like Alejandro Berrio didn’t after his team verbally agreeing to fight Carl 10 days ago.”

“After Denis Inkin pulled out twice, and then Team Berrio changing their minds, Carl is obviously the one everyone wants to avoid now in the super-middleweight division. But Carl will fight for the prestigious WBC title in the fight after this one, so he can’t afford any mishaps.”

The Cobra’ gave a stinging response to Inkin and Berrio failing to step up to the plate.

He said: "Williams is a tall, rangy box puncher so he will be a good test for me, he has been very active this year and has already fought against two world class fighters that’s why he is ready to fight me right now.”

“Williams deserves a lot of credit he’ obviously prepared to fight anyone, he has a true fighters heart, unfortunately I can’t say the same for Inkin or Berrio”
"I’ve heard all of Inkin’s excuses, viruses, bad back, etc; I don’t buy it for a second. After doing this a second time to me the man’s got no honour he is a coward, he does not deserve to share a ring with me.”

"I am disappointed with Team Inkin for allowing this to happen. I could compile a list of things that have gone wrong with me in the lead up to both of these fights, from viruses to injuries to everyday niggles, but as fighters we would never fight if we took Team Inkin’s attitude.”

"Berrio was just as bad by mucking us about, one minute saying he was in and the next saying he was out."

“It doesn’t matter who is in the corner though, I will still win in style and show everyone why Joe Calzaghe is avoiding me.”

Williams will only work in the early part of the fight and if he thinks he can hit a guy he will keep working. He was able to hit Lacy with the jab so he used it a lot. Same with Echols, Echols was staying in the pocket and couldn't fend off the jab.

Against Green, that was just a lullaby of a fight on both ends and he couldn't hit Ward to save his life and went into heavybag mode and just stopped punching. Ward was opening him up with feints, jabs to the body and by switching southpaw and even then, Williams was durable. The fight was only stopped on cuts, Williams could have gone 10 easy.

Who knows if Froch stops hi,, maybe Williams will be confident in his offense and actually punch against Froch. I'm not picking Williams by and stretch but I won't be surprised if anybody beats Froch including Williams.

why on earth has witter-bradeley been moved upto top billing??

carl froch could have a workout session in the middle of the ring with his trainer and it would still be a hell of a lot more exciting than watching junior witter fight!!
