I just finished watching the D. Santos v. J. Alcine championship fight, and guess who was the ref? You guessed it! As I watched his activity, I realized he was again only paying attention to Santos' actions and supposed indiscretions. Good thing he dominated and KO'd Alcine. Even in the KO, he got to the count well after ten, then picked it up around five, giving Alcine every opportunity to get up-until he fell back on his face.

I say this for two reasons--if he is going to ref championship level fights, then we better start seeing a whole lot more KO's from the travelling fighter!

On a larger note, though, it's starting to look to me like his efforts to save the hometown fighter might actually have a reverse effect in the long run. I believe Bute was damaged in his fight with Andrade. Going twelve rounds with the 'bootleg Margarito' is nothing sweet, and anyone could see that he was physically hurt in the fifth round (to the point of grabbing Andrade by the legs), then thought his box and hold technique would give him a smooth ride through this fight. Well it did-and it didn't. W on the record, but lots taken from the tank. I don't think he wins his next fight against a top ten opponent, and definitely not Kessler-unless Wright is the ref.

Hopefully something can be done about him before he does any more damage to people, reputations or the sport.
