Default A young THIN Porkypara in action from 1992!

This was my second amateur bout.

As you can see I was still VERY raw at this stage.

The gym I went to had lots of boys boxing at the time and they used to put you in contests only after a few weeks in the gym if you were keen.

I always have a good laugh when I watch this coz I am slapping so much it would make Joe Calzaghe blush.

Sorry for the poor video quality but I videoed it straight from the TV.

Maybe one of the amateur fighters can explain to me why the ref warned the guy in red (I hope that's you Porky ) twice in the first round? Was if for landing with the wrong part of the gloves?

Yes that is me in the red and I was warned for hitting with the wrong part of the glove.(calzaghe style)

It is a lot stricter in amateur boxing than in the pros. For examle the corner men are not alowed to shout out advice during the round.

O yea...is a points deduction, and if you really piss off the ref doing it, he'll just call the fight and reward it to the other fighter. One of my trainers was warned for it, but not deducted. Hard as it is...trainers need to keep the emotions in check.

There are quiet a few rules thaat are different in the amateur game.

This is what a lot of novice amature boxing matches are like.Who can swing the hardest.

If I had been against a half decent boxer I would have been picked apart.

    LUCKY FOR ME I WAS'NT!!!!!!!!!

Well, yeah, you weren't exactly Pernell Whitaker defensively or anything, but I though you looked fine considering it was your 2nd fight.

Swinging for the fence like that, you must have been in pretty good shape, I definitely would have troubles keeping up a pace like that haymaker after haymaker. How did your amateur career end up?
