    Default Two Calzaghe Opponents

Jermain Taylor: If Jermain beats Lacy this weekend at 168, and fights and beats Froch in February, do you think it would be possible that Calzaghe would fight Jermain? I recall that Jermain was on Calzaghe's shortlist after he beat Lacy, but Pavlik screwed up his plans. With wins over Froch and Lacy - which are big ?'s obviously - Jermain will have done a lot to redeem himself. Moreover, he is less risk than a Dawson or Johnson fight. Of course, if Froch fought and beat Jermain, the logical fight would be with Froch.

Oscar De La Hoya: I know Calzaghe has recently been fighting at 175, and the likelihood of OLDH fighting someone from Great Britian not named Ricky Hatton is slim to nil, but if Calzaghe fought ODLH at a catch-weight of say 165, the match could be a mega-match reminiscent of PBF v. ODLH. ODLH has fought as high as 160 before (see his loss to Hopkins)...If I were in the twilight of my career and wanted to make as much money as I could without risking injury, an ODLH fight may make sense. Of course, the money would be incredible.

    Just throwing it out there.

Oscar would get taken to the cleaners by Calzaghe. He has always had suspect stamina and he would be blowing out of his arse by about round 4 with the pace Calzaghe fights at.
Jermain Taylors stock is too low to entice Calzaghe I think. I honestly think Calzaghe would only fight Hopkins and he would only do it for huge amounts of money, which will never be offered. I honestly dont see Calzaghe getting back in the ring.

You are probably right. I was just throwing that out there from the viewpoint that Calzaghe wants to fight big fights for mega coin. JT and ODLH are still very well known names. Obviously, ODLH is a complete longshot. Jermain is a bit more realistic, but he needs to redeem himself first. Wins over Froch and Lacy would work well toward that end.

There's a slim chance the Taylor fight could materialise if things pan out like you say.

    Oscar? That's sick man.

DLH would look so stupid fighting Calzaghe! Would give him a taste of his own medicine, but it would never happen. Would be a comedy masterclass though.

It is quite a funny thought

Rantcatrat was obviously thinking of the money angle. But some fights are just a step to far.

Maybe if Pac beats Oscar he could try Calzaghe.. pac fans would make him favourite

Besides all the other things, there is no way Joe makes 165.

Taylor is not a bad opponent though.

Totally thinking of the money angle. But hell, crazier things have happened. ODLH is fighting PAC in less than a month. The weight/height disparity is wider in that match than it would be in the Calzaghe match. But, I acknowledge, it is a longshot.

People have been talking about Zsolt Erdei...Not that Erdei would ever step up to that challenge.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jermain Taylor vs Joe Calzaghe, i was actually one of the ones wanting that fight to happen at the time. It would be a good clash of styles, and i would give Joe Calzaghe alot of credit for beating a fighter, who had just come off beating Jeff Lacy/Carl Froch.

As for ODLH vs Joe Calzaghe its a joke of a fight, ODLH will do anything for money. He would be like a deer in the headlights, and he would get taken apart.

As Enzo said if he is going to fight again it will have to be quick, so by the time Taylor if does that is beat Lacy then a Froch/Kessler, i think Joe is defintly long gone, this fight if it would ever to happen we would be looking at about 12 months so i cant really see it happening.

Taylor v Kessler and Froch/Pascal v Bute in 2009, winners fighting each other?? I think that would be awesome.
