Default Mayweather Return, Marquez Fight Announcement Timing

Anyone think it was pretty classless?? I mean it is announced the day of one of the biggest and most important fights in boxing this year. Floyd was quoted as saying "Somebody's got to keep the sport up and running. Why not me?" just as one of the most internationally promoted fights with a huge public interest was about to take place. Does he think he ever kept the sport running? Does he not see that Ricky and Manny have a bigger fanbase than most fighters in history. I think the timing of this announcemet was in poor taste. Maybe Floyd thought that since he beat Hatton, he was entitled to steal some of his big moment as he sees himself as the savior of boxing, and maybe Marqez felt that since he feels he beat Pac (as do I) he feels it should have been his mega fight. Both scenarios are wrong and I hope the timing is just a coincidence. I dont believe tht thought. I just think it could have waited a day.

I agree. But then Floyd will never be accused of having too much class. It certainly could've waited a day or a week. Regardless, nothing can steal Pac's thunder after that devastating KO of Hatton.

Not like PBF is known for his class. lol

From a marketing POV tho, it was smart. You won't find a bigger boxing audience then that to make the announcement. Classless, yes. But probably good for the sport.

I agree with all of you, smart time to get his name back out there, but greedy and a childish attemp for attention to do it when he did. Does he really believe boxing needs him to carry the sport? 2009 has shaped up to be a GREAT year for boxing imo...and all since Floyd retired. Significant fights were made, good fights for boxing where the best have been fighting the best. There was more clarity in the divisions, barring heavyweights, this year than the previous 5 years imo, and all without the help of Floyd.

Floyd's like the little boy at the pickup game who takes his ball and leaves, thinking the game will end without him... only to turn around and see they're playing with another ball and actually do not need him at all.

Same here. In the ring he has shown nothing but PERFECTION. Guy has speed, jab, hooks, uppercuts, straights, unpenetrable defense, fast feet, lateral movement, can adjust, etc. He has it all. Now THAT would be a great fight vs Pac.

No offense, but thats because they both have entire countries behind them. They have few fighters who are shining at the world stage right now in such a huge way so of course their fan base shall be huge. In america people are very picky about who they follow But only because there are so many out there. If America only had 1 person at the big stage they'd be standing behind him too in as huge a way.

Yeah, but either way, the fact is they both have more fans than him. Im American and I can honestly say that if Mayweather fought Pac, 80% of the people I know would be rooting for Pac.

I agree, Mayweather will look at the Pacquiao KO and think to himself " I shoulda stayed retired" I don't think he can beat Pacman.

I thought it was a pretty desperate move, literally riding Pacs coat tails Imo.It may just boil down to Mayweather assuming his legacy-greatness intact, pouting & stepping aside and going hermit at his very peak. Manny just passed him by in a blaze. He not only filled the void but is standing on Mayweathers mass media pedestal.Pacquiao at this moment is the real money maker in their inevitable match up I believe.
