As I'm sure you'll be aware, Joe Calzaghe won a case against Frank Warren's company Sports Network Ltd a few months ago for them to pay him around £2 million in outstanding fight fees. Strangely enough, when they got to Sports Network to collect the money, the company was in administration and Frank Warren had abandoned that limited company in a what appears to be acynical effort to avoid paying Calzaghe.
However, does this mean Warren's boxers are no longer fighting? Of course not....like any good rogue trader, Warren's already got another limited company ready in the wings and is still promoting and organising fights under the Queensbury Fight Network's banner.
As the update on fightnews shows, Calzaghe is still trying to chase Warren for that money, but has to follow business law to try and pin him down, rather than the simpler route of suing a company for breaking a contract, which he did for the first victory.
Calzaghe sues Warren! | Fightnews - Boxing News Updated 24/7
He wants the BBBofC to strip Warren of his promoter's licence and wants Warren to pay up.
And here's my tuppenceworth. In this one, it looks to me like Warren has resorted to his car-salesman origins, ducking and diving to avoid having to pay up to a fighter who decided not to renew his contract with him. The man is a weasel, hope they pin him down and take the money.
