What in the hell would that mean to the world of boxing?
What in the hell would that mean to the world of boxing?
I was thinking about the the other day and I decided it would be "good" for boxing.
One, it would mean a rubber match for Pac-JMM (whether or not Pac defeats Cotto). This would be a mega fight and would answer the questions left after the first two fights. This fight is just as desirable as Pac-PBF imo.
Secondly, because Floyd is going to want a couple more paychecks before cashing out for real, he will be forced to fight legitimate welterweights. Once the "0" is gone so is much of Floyds bargaining power. Might see him face off against Mosley at 147. He would have to fight a dangerous opponent to get solid PPV numbers and a big pay check, especially if he's coming off a loss.
Marquez would cement his legacy as one of the best technicians ever in the ring if he beat Mayweather.
If that happened it would take 2 weeks to wipe the smile off my face for 2 reasons
1) I'd LOVE to see pretty boy get knocked the f-out!!!
2) we get to see a 3rd fight with Pacman (if he beats Cotto)
I'd pee a little.
I don't think it would be good for boxing though. Best scenario for boxing is PAC winning, PBF winning, the deal getting signed, forums erupting into mayhem, sports writers chiming in all over the place, and the super fight actually happening with unprecedented numbers. The winner of that wouldn't really matter much, other then to the fans of each fighter.
Actually you're all wrong lol
Marquez beating Mayweather doesn't equal Marquez Pacquiao 3. Mayweather would probably get a rematch. Because if Marquez beats Mayweather then..
It equals Mayweather vs Marquez II and if Mayweather wins that then it would be Mayweather vs Marquez III and the winner of that one would cement their legacy. Would Mayweather finally prove he is as good as he says he is by defeating his "Frazier" or will Marquez prove once and for all he is the better fighter.
The winner of that trilogy will probably fight Pacquiao at that point if he hasn't been beaten yet.
I'd pizz my pants and not change for a week. When I finally make bail and come off the bender,I'd pay the owners of the Imax cinema every dime I have to air it on a loop.
It would mean one thing over all: JMM would finally receive all the credit that he deserves from the boxing community, especially for the "non specialistS" for who he's not unknown but for which you have to remind them who he is. Good? Bad? Bad for the PPV, perhaps, Good for more exciting matches for sure.

That's the way it is, not the way it ends
I prefer Marquez-Pacquiao because you know you will get an awesome fight in one of the best rivalries in the sport, but Mayweather-Pacman would be bigger.
I would love to see it but I would rather see Pac and Mayweather fight each other as the two best pound for pound fighters.
Completely agree, right now the money fight is Pac-Mayweather, if they both win. But man it would be sweet if JMM wins especially by KO which I highly doubt. JMM would be p4p #1 imo. I think that win regardless if its a ko or not is better than Pac beating Cotto and anything that Pac has done for that matter, no discredit to Pac though either. The opposition JMM has taken over his last few fights, nothing short of great.

Then MArquez takes the p4p throne.
